A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
What a beautiful week we've had! Students certainly enjoyed playing outside at recess and basking in all of the sunshine. Ms. McCauley is able to continue to hold PE classes on the field. There's no better way to keep us all healthy than spending plenty of time outdoors.
Speaking of staying active, you may have seen Mrs. Doran's email looking for volunteers for Great Start Activities. For those of you who are new to PES, Great Starts is our before-school enrichment offering which is held during Late Start Wednesday time from 8:15-9:20 for K-5 students. Parents provide the transportation to school on these Wednesdays for K-5 students.
This year will mark the 10th year that we've offered this FREE before-school program. We are hoping to be able to continue our tradition. We are looking for several adults to help run a variety of activities. We need two adults to supervise gym activities, need one adult to supervise an arts and crafts activity, and one adult to supervise board games. We are also willing to have volunteers come up with new offerings. In the past, we have offered children's yoga, nature walks, exploring the touch tank, and garden club to name only a few. Any approved volunteer https://www.rsu1.org/page/volunteer-information can help support an activity. This can include parents, grandparents, or other adult with an interest in offering enrichment to our students. Ideally, we'd like to have this up and running by Wednesday, October 18th, so PLEASE contact Mrs. Doran if you or someone you know is able to help out. Let's keep this fantastic, unique to PES program going!
SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
MAD SCIENCE BEFORE SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
On Wednesday mornings from 8:20AM-9:20AM at PES (parents provide transportation to school), from October 11th through December 6th (skip Nov 22) Mad Science is offering Energize It! a 1-hour 8 week class for K-5 students, cost: $105. If your child is interested, please register today at: https://maine.madscience.org/parents-details-a.aspx?regItemSessionID=395968
We have our minimum, and still have 10 openings.
VOLUNTEERS WANTED
Now that we have put the pandemic behind us, we are looking to reignite our formerly robust volunteer program at PES. We are looking for adults to help out with Great Starts, to work with students in the classrooms, to do clerical tasks, and to help out in the library. We hope you'll consider making time to volunteer in your busy schedules.
There are so many important benefits to volunteering at school—both for you and your child. Research has shown that children of a school volunteer have better grades and perform better on tests. They’re also better behaved and have better attendance. If you’re still wondering, “Why should I volunteer?,” here are a few reasons:
Volunteering makes a difference in your child’s education
Volunteering allows you to spend more time with your child
Volunteering helps create community
Volunteering allows you to get to know teachers and staff
Volunteering shows your child how much you value their education
Volunteering is fun
If you're interested in volunteering, please complete the form on the RSU1 website. We hope to see you in a PES classroom very soon!
If you wish to volunteer this year, or chaperone a field trip, please register here:
https://www.rsu1.org/page/volunteer-information
Please allow one week prior to a field trip or event for processing.
LOST AND FOUND
Cool mornings and warm afternoons are a recipe for lost jackets and hoodie sweatshirts! Please be sure to write your student's name in their outerwear so things can be returned if they go missing. Students and parents are encouraged to check the Lost and Found on their way into the building; we have several gray sweatshirts waiting to be reclaimed.
OCTOBER IS FIRE PREVENTION/SAFETY MONTH
Be sure to change the batteries in your smoke detectors, and that your family knows where to meet outside the home in case of fire. Phippsburg Fire Department doesn't have an open house this month, but you are welcome to attend the West Bath Fire Department's Open House October 10th from 5-7PM, or Bath Fire Department's Open House October 12th from 6-8PM. We look forward to our Phippsburg Fire Fighters visiting PES on Tuesday, October 24th!
PTA NEWS
Our next meeting is Friday, October 13th at 8:30AM at PES. We hope to see you there!
