Homecoming 2021
Mineral Point Unified School District is celebrating its 2021 Homecoming September 27th through October 2nd. This year’s theme is “We’re Out of This World!”
Please read a list of events here and join us in the fun! https://mineralpointschools.org/2021/09/homecoming-2021/
Homecoming Parade Entry Info
If you have any questions, please contact Matt Nevers at matt.nevers@mp.k12.wi.us or 987-0739 ext. 472. Entries should be in no later than Wednesday, September 29 to allow enough time to distribute the parade line-up to all involved. Floats may be pulled by car or truck, and the driver must have a valid WI driver’s license. Written permission from the owner must be registered with Mr. Nevers. No three or four wheelers will be allowed in the parade and we ask that you refrain from throwing candy as it creates a hazardous situation for youngsters. Class floats can have 6-8 students riding and drivers of floats must have a valid regular driver’s license (19 years old and older) and proof of insurance turned into the high school office a week before the parade.
School Garden
Save the date!
In 2018, our community generously supported and approved an $11.92 million referendum to renovate and expand the elementary school. Construction is nearly complete and we are thrilled to open our beautiful building to all. On Wednesday, October 6, the elementary school will be open from 5:00-7:00 pm for self-guided tours. Some staff members will be available to provide assistance and answer questions. We can't wait to show off your incredible investment in the future of the Mineral Point Unified School District. Thank you, #PointerNation! (Please note masks will be required at this event)

Picture Day Approaching
youth gymnastics clinics
The Dodgeville/Mineral Point/Iowa-Grant Gymnastics team will be holding several clinics as a fundraising event for their program.
We will introduce the kids a variety of skills and allow them guided time on each of the apparatuses - floor, bars, beam, and vault. They will also learn proper stretching techniques and will participate in drills that will encourage strength and proper body positioning for gymnastics. For the advanced gymnasts, we will focus on proper techniques, skill advancement, as well as introduce them to skills to work toward in preparation for high school gymnastics!
The clinic will be run by head coach, Julia Oellerich, and four high school gymnasts. All levels are welcome - from beginner to advanced! All proceeds will support the Dodgeville/Mineral Point/Iowa-Grant Gymnastics program!

Ron Murphy Thank You
There are so many people in the community to thank on Ron’s and our behalf; we hope we don’t leave anyone out. To all the family and friends who came out to the game, it was so special to see and talk to all of you. To the former assistant coaches and players in the football program, your cards, letters, notes and messages will be treasured forever. We appreciate the alumni group, Mineral Point School Board, Mitch Wainwright, and Vickie Dahl for making this night happen, Joelle Doye for the excellent coverage of the event on the internet, and Robin Wiegman for the fantastic pictures. A thanks goes out to Brad Berget for donating his 50/50 raffle winnings back to the Ron Murphy Scholarship Fund and to Deb and Cory and staff from Dodge-Point Country Club for the wonderful get-together and food after the game. We can’t forget also, the Dodgeville Chronicle and Democrat Tribune for their kind words and coverage of Ron’s special day; both papers hold a special place in our hearts. Last but definitely not least, our utmost appreciation and love for Ted Evans, Ron’s dear and loyal friend throughout the years; without him, none of this would be possible.
The family of Coach Murphy also wants to say congratulations to the Pointer football team on a tremendous and exciting victory the night of the field dedication. You could not have asked for a more fitting way to end a game where, as Coach Murphy would say, the Pointers “found a way” as time was running down. No doubt in our minds that Ron was in heaven smiling ear to ear as the time left on scoreboard bearing his name hit zero.
With all our hearts,
The Murphy Family
Notes from Nurse Lindsey
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the CDC recommend that anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19 or who has had close contact with someone with COVID-19 be tested. The test for COVID-19 involves a quick swab of the inside of the nose. The school is working with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on providing rapid antigen and PCR tests in school. If you would like to have the option for your child to get a PCR or antigen test at school, they must bring the attached consent form signed by a parent/guardian if they are under 18 years old. You would be contacted before any testing would occur and only if indicated per school policy. This form is being distributed now, to be collected in advance so that in the event your child needs to be tested, we would not have to wait for the form to be returned during the middle of a work or school day.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Nurse Lindsey at jayne.lindsey@mp.k12.wi.us.
