PVES School Counseling Department
September 2023
Welcome to the 2023-2024 School Year!
Hello Palomino family! We are officially in the 2023-2024 school year and have gotten off to a great start! My name is Ms. Cooper, and I am the school counselor here at Potomac View. Each month the School Counseling department will share our newsletter to provide resources, updates, and highlights. If you have not done so, you can translate this newsletter to your home language.
Classroom Guidance Lessons for September
This year, classroom guidance lessons will be given to your child's class once a month for 30 minutes. The amount of lessons provided can change depending on the needs of students as well. For the month of September, students will receive an introduction lesson from their counselor as well as learn about Zones of Regulation, the system we use to describe our emotions.
Student and Parent Needs Assessment
All Prince William County Schools students in grades 3-12 will participate in a division-wide student needs assessment in the month of September. The purpose of the needs assessment is to evaluate the needs of our families and provide support through community resources, individual, or small group counseling. Once we receive the results, the School Based Mental Health Team (school counselor, school social worker, and school psychologist) will review our data and connect with identified families for next steps. If you wish to speak with the school counselor about your student, feel free to contact me using the button titled "I Need to Speak with the School Counselor".
