School News and Updates - September 24th, 2020
Principal Message
Dear Sequoia Families,
Each month we have a theme to help build character and skills in our students as they grow and develop at Sequoia. This month we are focused on what it means to "Be Proactive". In my assembly videos over the last several weeks I have explained that being proactive means:
- I have a "can do" attitude.
- I take responsibility for my actions
- I take initiative to get things done
- I decide my attitude and actions no matter what is happening around me.
- What I say to myself, I believe. So, keep it positive.
One opportunity your family can commit to trying together is our No/Low Tech Weekend Challenge! With so much screen time for kids and families, we find that many people are less active and less personally connected. The No/Low Tech Challenge is a chance for all families to take a break from technology on the weekends, move their bodies, and connect with each other. Please take a couple minutes to watch this video from our school counselor, Mr. Tayler, on the why behind this family challenge: http://bit.ly/NoTechChallenge. Send photos of your family connecting with each other or getting outside to thockett@rvusd.org or bclark@rvusd.org to be included in the weekly newsletter. Each month we will pick a family to award a no/low tech prize! (Prizes include: Sonoma County Park Passes, gift cards for books, games and more.)
Make sure to check out all the info below and I hope you have a great, no tech weekend!

Spirit Wear is Here!
Parent Tip of the Week!
On the weekends or during the week it's helpful to think about what big or small things you or your child can do TODAY to make tomorrow a little easier and less stressful.
Can you (or your child)...
- Spend 10-15 minutes on Sunday to look and prioritize your family schedule for the week?
- Organize the backpack or learning space the night before?
- Have devices charged and ready to go?
- Make lunch the night before if your child does learning outside the home?
- Have your child set out their clothes the night before so getting ready is quick and easy?
- Make one family routine more consistent this week? (bed times, mornings, etc.)
The first parent to email bclark@rvusd.org with something you will try this week to make your days easier will get a $5 Starbucks gift card on the next Thursday Folder Day!
We would LOVE garden help!
