Dear Hornet Middle School Families:


The 2022-23 school year is off to a GREAT start! We are busy building classroom routines, expectations and relationships. The sixth graders transition to the middle school has been very smooth. We were ecstatic to have 80% of our families show up for our open house this year as well as averaging over 90% in attendance daily for our students thus far!


As always, we hope each and every one of our students grow to their best potential academically and socially this school year with a focus on their future stories. This year we are kicking off the Positivity Project which is based on 24 positive character traits to help with success. Thank you in advance for partnering with us to make this a positive, memorable year for all!

The Morning Buzz

Our students lead us each morning on "The Morning Buzz" with announcements and the Pledge of Allegiance. They have a behind the scenes crew who develop the slideshow as well as work the camera and lighting. Today is the very first day they have recorded the show for our common intervention classes to watch as soon as they are ready. Students will pre-record, watch and edit their presentations prior to sending them out daily. Media specialists in training!

8th Grade Career Exploration Project

Airforce Career Presentation

8th graders listened tentatively to Elle Coughlin (HCS Alumni) and Nathan Presley on Friday, September 9th as they talked about a career in the Airforce. They talked about joining, opportunities, salaries, benefits, job responsibilities. Students were very interested about their personal mission experiences. During their common intervention time, our eighth graders are doing a career exploration project this marking period. We continue to make strides in helping our students see their future story.

Community Building Acitivities

Students in Mrs. Byce's ELA classes have been reviewing parts of speech. This week they did an activity where they sorted different types of verbs.


This is just one of the many teachers that have been establishing group norms and expectations for activities helping build a community of respect and rapport for our classroom learning environments.

Donations

THANK YOU to Women of the Diva Paddle Parties of Central Michigan for your donations of school supplies for our students! They will be put to good use.


We appreciate any donations. Currently our clothing closet could use some donation of gently used clothing. We also have a PBIS store that students can spend the Buzz Bucks they earn for prizes like gift cards, Hornet wear, tickets, passes, etc.

PR's in PE

Mr. Halm's PE classes are getting fit! Students are competing to break their own personal records but ALSO to get their name on the top leader board. They will do these the beginning, middle and end of the semester to see their personal growth. Check out our beginning of the year leaders!
