If you can believe it, Friday marks the halfway point for the school year! It's been an honor to work with your children, and I'm excited about everything we're going do this second half. Enjoy your weekend, and let's finish out this quarter strong!

• What: Encanto Movie Night - a new free community event hosted by the PTA!

• Where: School Cafeteria

• When: Doors open at 6pm and the movie begins at 6:30pm. Use the cafeteria doors behind the school for entry/exit.

• Who: Irvington students and their families! Children MUST be accompanied by an adult.

• Food and Drink: Free popcorn provided! Please bring your own water bottles filled with water. No other outside food or beverages allowed.

• Seating: The cafeteria floor for kids and lunch table benches in the back for adults. You’re welcome to bring a blanket or camp chair to sit on. We ask that chairs stay in the back so everyone can see!

• Note: Please remember this is our trial run and we appreciate your patience as we test out the space and equipment!

The Read-A-Thon starts Monday! Hop online to make your student an account at https://pledgestar.com/irvington/ - it’s easy! You have just a few more days to find pledges! Refer to the handouts from last week’s Friday Folders for more details or hard copies of sponsor and minute tracking forms! Need help? Email Stephanie.m.vallance@gmail.com.

Beginning Monday, start tracking your student’s reading minutes! You can do this whether or not you have sponsors - everyone can participate in the reading! The students will be working collectively towards school-wide goals to win school-wide prizes. If every student reads 20 minutes a day, they'll reach the second tier. Help your students get excited by sharing the prize levels below:

• 35,000 minutes equals Extra Recess

• 45,000 minutes equals Popcorn Party

• 55,000 minutes equals DANCE PARTY

Please join us on Thursday, January 26th at 9:00am (after drop off) in room 109 for the first School Promotion and Outreach Committee meeting. This group will be exploring strategies to increase enrollment and promote Irvington School within the community. These efforts will include Connect to Kindergarten this spring. Coffee and snacks will be provided.

Pizza Schmizza is an Oregon-based chain of New York Style pizzerias offering pizza by-the-slice using the highest quality ingredients. And they’re hosting our next Restaurant Night Fundraiser! This Monday, January 23rd, order takeout or dine in from 11am - 10pm, and they will donate 10% of their profits to our school! No code needed, and no 3rd party delivery apps accepted. As you’re sorting through books to read during the Read-A-Thon, set aside ones you’re ready to pass along. A few weeks from now, the PTA will be putting on a Book Drive - start saving books now!

Irvington will host a Black history assembly on January 26 at 2pm in the gym. This event is open to families. Because there is limited space in the gym, there will be standing room only for families, but if you need different access for mobility reasons, please let me know (ggregoricka@pps.net).
