This Tuesday, November 9, assistance on completing the FAFSA will be available in the high school cafeteria from 5:00 - 7:30. Parents should bring their 2020 tax return in order to complete the application.

In 2019, the Texas Legislature passed a requirement that beginning with students enrolled in 12th grade during the 2021-2022 school year, each student must do one of the following in order to graduate:

• Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
• Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA); or
• Submit a signed opt-out form.

The reason for this legislation was that studies found millions of dollars in financial aid were being left on the table by eligible students who did not want to fill out a FAFSA.

Each year MHS SAG (Student Activities Government) collects donations for Food for Families. These donations are taken to KWTX in Waco and are provided to pantries in our area. This important event not only provides food to families in need, but it also provides a wonderful lesson on generosity and sharing for our students.

This year, the class who collects the most items on each campus will receive a pizza party, and the 2nd place winner for each campus will win an ice cream party.

Donations can be sent with students to school or dropped off on either campus. The last day for collections is Thursday, November 18th.

If this is the students first attempt the test is free, if the student is retesting each test will cost $6.
