#ReadersAreLeaders (The 5)
The best way to increase your child's reading skills? Encouraging reading! ANY reading! ALL reading! The more you talk about what you just read or what you are reading, the more your child will become interested in reading! Any time you have the opportunity to read a book WITH your child, that is winning! My own 8th grader is reading "To Kill A Mockingbird" in her 8th grade ELA class and we are taking the time to read it together! She is not an avid reader like I am, so I am cherishing the opportunity for her and I to read together in hopes that it fosters her love of reading!

Notes from Ms. Raeburn (The 10)
March: the month of LUCK
In March, my notes section will focus on the upcoming testing season
We have ten more days in #ProjectLevelUP
This week, scholars will be focused on working on creating constructed responses to questions that would earn them a Level 3 or 4 on GMAS. Our teachers have spent a lot of time teaching and modeling best practices and making sure that our students know how to complete the constructed response questions to the very best of their ability!
It is important that our students know the format of the test. That is the focus of our curriculum for #ProjectLevelUP. We are focusing on the context of how questions will be asked and teaching and modeling exemplar responses.
We will run this project through the April 30th.
When we return from Spring Break, we will focus on adding constructed response practice to our closings in our classes.
We will also be meeting with scholars to review individually with them their GMAS results from last year and set goals for this year. We are setting the bar that ALL scholars shoot for "Leveling UP" and moving up an achievement level descriptor! Those meetings will begin when we return from Spring Break!
Other notes:

We would love to begin collecting snack donations for GMAS time! If you are willing and able to donate any of the following for your child's grade level team, please send it in to the main office labeled. Thank you.
Donations needed:
- Fruit Snacks
- Snack Crackers (Individually Wrapped)
- Granola Bars (any kind)
- Mini Waters
- Hard Candy (Jolly Ranchers, Mints, Cinnamons, Etc)

We will have a celebration for all scholars who earned Proficient and Distinguished on last year's GMAS and we will have a whole school kick off on Friday April 27th.
GMAS this year is scheduled to begin Monday April 30th and run through May 11th.
We are very fortunate at BCMS to be almost 1:1 which allows us to test all our scholars in the morning!
TRIBE Shop is still open! See Ms. Shelby for GEAR and of course, we are always collecting box tops! We have new shirts that we are ordering. Check out the link here:
