OCTOBER LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Farm / Harvest Study
During the month of October, Bright Futures will be transformed into a farm, complete with pretend barns, animals, farm-fresh foods, and equipment! During each center, students will be learning all about FALL, FARMING, and HARVEST! Topics will include:
Farm animals
Farm-fresh foods
Farming equipment
Planting
Harvesting
Fall Crops
Fall Recipes / Taste Tests
And the MANY jobs of a FARMER!
On Tuesday, October 25 we will celebrate with a FALL HARVEST PARTY. On this day kids can come dressed as a farmer, farm animal, or even one of the crops!
Dressing up for the Harvest Party is completely optional. We will have bandanas and cowboy hats available for kids that wish to participate but did not have time to purchase or make a costume at home. The Knox County Farm Bureau will be teaching the children about Dairy Cows, farm equipment will be on display, and kids will enjoy a variety of harvest snacks, sing farm songs and make fall crafts!

FARM/HARVEST THEME DONATIONS
We have many wonderful learning opportunities planned throughout the month. Several parents have reached out to ask if there is anything they can donate or anything our classrooms need. We appreciate the generosity, it is certainly not necessary. PARENTS ARE THE BEST TEACHERS
TIPS FOR HELPING YOUR PRE-K CHILD WITH SPEECH AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT.
SPEECH
- Avoid using pacifiers and bottles.
- Speak clearly to your child and model good speech.
- Repeat difficult words back to your child correctly. Do not imitate their speech.
- Allow your child to use drinking straws. This can help develop the muscles in their mouth
that assist with speech.
LANGUAGE
- Read with your child.
- Talk directly with your child.
- Describe the activities you are doing.
- Use gestures and point to objects as you say the corresponding words.
- Sing songs together.
LIMIT SCREEN TIME
Studies have shown that too much screen time can delay speech and language development. You are not alone in trying to find a healthy balance for your children. Cut back on screen time a little each day. Replace screen time with reading, playing outside, pretending, singing, coloring, and talking with your child.
