Commodity prices spike as the war leads to another blow to global supplies
Commodity prices are spiking due to concerts that the war in Ukraine will lead to dire shortages of critical materials. The gas prices have gone up due to the ports closing. There is no way for food, fuel and other things to be shipped out and to other countries. Oil prices have continued to grow causing more financial crises. Gas prices in California have gone up 51 cents in just the past week. This leads to an average cost of $5.34. Wheat prices have ballooned 50% since the beginning of the war. Nickel prices have jumped 76%. This was one of the most extreme jumps in metal market history.

Commodity prices spike as the war in Ukraine deals another blow to global supplies
As you all know, commodities are very important to our everyday life. Commodities recently have had historic price swings. An example is nickel, it had its biggest daily dollar gain on record. The commodities are spiking because people are afraid that the war in Ukraine will result in a big shortage of critical materials. There have been many port closures which have stopped Russia and Ukraine from shipping goods around the world. As you all I'm sure have noticed, gas prices are starting to sky rocket and reach highs that have not been seen. An example is gas prices in California have increces 51 cents in just the past week which bring their average to $5.34. Another issue is food prices, wheat for instance has doubled in price since the war began. In 2008 protests broke out when wheat prices were this high. Metals are also jumping in price, for example nickel price jumped by 76% on Monday. This is pretty sad considering the fact that the economy was just recovering from the shortages from covid.

Northern Michigan tourism is back after the pandemic “slump”
Michigan had a massive rise in tourism after the pandemic of 2020. They somehow managed to pull in $19.2 million. It was up 53.1% from 2020. Even without the pandemic the numbers jumped immensely. They jumped a staggering 27.7% from 2019. That is a massive increase. Thats like the difference between $200 and $250. That difference only gets larger as the amount goes up. Its like adding $250,000 extra dollars to a million. There were many things that bumped up the numbers including lodging, hotels, charters and many more.

They will continue to pay their employees, but Kempckinski, the CEO has said that it's the best decision right now. They have also temporarily closed 108 restaurants in Ukraine, and are still paying the workers. "Our values mean we cannot ignore the needless human suffering unfolding in Ukraine," Kempckinski said. Yum Brands (the parent company of KFC and Pizza Hut) is donating profits from Russia to humanitarian efforts. They have suspended new restaurant development there as well. Some other companies have been pulling out of Russia in protest of the Ukraine invasion.
