The students and teachers did an amazing job during the WV GSA testing. We appreciate all of the students hard work and focus during the test. We could not be more proud of the efforts they gave.

If your student missed a test this week, they will be completing those makeups during the week of 5/15-5/19.

We are excited to announce that three Charles Town Middle eighth graders have been named 2023 Knights of the Golden Horseshoe. The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) honors students across the state each year with the prestigious award for their outstanding knowledge of West Virginia history.

The WVDE will recognize the following CTMS students at a June 13 induction ceremony at the West Virginia Culture Center in Charleston:

• Ivy Day
• Megan Caltrider
• Ava Brenneke

Students in Ms. Pulsifer's 8th grade Science classes are studying the internal and external structure and anatomy of crayfish. Students have been drawing the crayfish, labeling the different anatomy, and learning about crayfish native to West Virginia. For the culminating activity of this unit, students will dissect a crayfish next week.

Reminder of the 7th and 8th grade fields trips coming up this week. Parents, please make sure that your students are appropriately dressed and prepared for the trip.

7th Grade: Trip on Wednesday, May 17.

Students will depart CTMS at 9:00 and return by 2:00. Students may purchase additional concession items at the movies - however a small popcorn and drink comes with their ticket purchase. Students will need a bagged lunch for their picnic at Sam Michael's Park. We do ask that they pack disposable items and in a disposable bag so they are not left behind. Chaperones should arrive with their ID to the CTMS main office by 8:30 AM.

8th Grade: Trip on Thursday, May 18.

Students will depart CTMS at 9:00 and return at 3:30. Please arrive to CTMS by 3:30 to pick up your student who is traveling on the trip. Students will need a bagged snack to eat prior to or after the trip- please make sure that these items are in a disposable bag so they are not lost/left behind. Outside food and drink are not permitted into Adventure Park. Backpacks are also not permitted, students should use a drawstring bag if they require a bag for the park. Students may bring additional money to purchase concession items while in the park. Students and chaperones will depart the park to load the buses at 2:00, buses will pull out by 2:15. Chaperones should arrive with their ID to the CTMS main office by 8:30 AM.

As the year is ending, the 6th grade are having a field day on Thursday, May 18. It is an all-day affair with games, treats, and even a movie. We will have water activities, movie and popcorn, and sporting events. If you need to opt out of any of the previous mentioned activities please fill out the form sent home with students so we may accommodate your decision.

LUNCH: Students will have an outdoor class picnic lunch. Students should bring their own bagged lunch to school or request a bagged lunch from the school. Lunch times will vary based on the activities.

We are in need of adult volunteers to help with activities. If you can volunteer please let us know by filling out the form that was sent home with students, or email your student's 6th grade math teacher.

We suggest that students bring the following to school for field day: Sunscreen, Hat, Towl, Water Bottles, Dry Clothes/Change of Clothes

Kona Ice will be visiting to raise money for Relay for Life.

Reminder:

The Spring Fling dance is for CTMS students ONLY. Students who are not enrolled at CTMS are not permitted to attend the dance.

Students receiving any OSS discipline AFTER 4/28/2023 or who receive a referral the week of the dance are not permitted to attend the dance.

Drop off begins at 5:50 PM. We do ask that parents are at the school promptly at 8:00 PM to pick up their student (s).

Formal attire is NOT required. Admission is $5.00; Refreshments/Concessions will be sold in the cafeteria.
