❤️Capturing Kids' Hearts❤️
The CKH Leadworthy Character Word for December is RESPONSIBILITY.
What is RESPONSIBILITY?
Responsibility is the willingness and ability to take ownership of our thoughts, words, and actions. We have a responsibility to our school, family, and community to be accountable for our choices and how they impact ourselves and others.
Why focus on Responsibility?
Responsibility teaches resilience. It is not possible to persevere and achieve our dreams without taking personal responsibility seriously.
Responsibility empowers us to own our actions. There is great power in being able to make conscious, calculated choices to reach goals and manage those things in our control.
Responsibility teaches us to manage our time and resources. Responsibly organizing and prioritizing needs is an executive function of the brain that improves with practice.
Our students, who consistently exemplify responsibility throughout December, are likely to be chosen as the Leadworthy Spotlight Winner for their class. Winners get to have a special lunch with the principals!
Please encourage your child to lead with great character each day!
❤️SUPPORT for PARENTS❤️
Primary Care Triple P: Positive Parenting Program
(This is a one-on-one intervention)
Targeted Population:
Parents of Pre-K through 5th grade students
Parents seeking information about how to address a specific parenting or child behavior issue
The family situation is reasonably stable (i.e. not in the middle of separation/divorce, parent has psychological issues themselves, or the child has major psychological issues that have not yet been addressed)
Families will participate in a few assessments. Based on the outcome of those assessments, the Triple P Team may determine whether this level of intervention will be beneficial for a family. If it is not going to be beneficial, and they recommend a higher level of care, such as family counseling that would involve more intense involvement, the team will make an outside counseling recommendation to the family and let the referring principal know.
Program Objectives:
Increase parents’ confidence in managing common behavior problems and developmental issues
Reducing parents’ use of coercive and punitive methods of disciplining children (focusing on pre-teaching desired behaviors, rather than just reacting to a bad behavior)
Improving parents’ communication and reducing parental stress
IF you are interested, please reach out to Mrs. Williams (Principal) or Ms. Dockery (Counselor), and they will get your information submitted to the team. Thank you!

Saline County Library Holiday Storytime at HCE
On Friday morning, our Kindergarten students enjoyed Holiday Story-time with our librarian friends from the Saline County Library! We truly appreciate the ladies for taking the time out of their busy schedules to bring a little Holiday Happy to our sweet Kinder babies! ❤️🤍💙
Class Attendance Incentive
Remember, when all students in a classroom are present and on time, with no early checkouts, the class receives a star for the day. Upon the 20th star, the class becomes eligible for the Class Attendance Incentive. There is a different incentive each month, so whatever the incentive is during the month a class reaches 20 stars, that's what they'll receive.
- October: Mrs. Stringer's class reached 20 stars and received a GLOW STICK PARTY!
- November: The following classes recached 20 stars and received a DANCE PARTY!
- Mrs. Penfield; Mrs. Finley; Mrs. DeVito; Mrs. Watts
- December: So far, Mrs. Garner's class will receive the December incentive! We are hoping to add many more to that list before the end of this week!!
We are so proud of our students for showing up to school each day--ready to learn at high levels!
📣ANNOUNCEMENTS/UPDATES/REQUESTS📣
CHRISTMAS PARTY DAY (DECEMBER 20, 2023)
Parents, I know you may have already received correspondence from your child's teacher regarding HCE Christmas parties, but there are some housekeeping things I'd like to share with you. Please read and adhere to the following:
- NO LUNCH VISITORS
- We will not have visitors during lunch on this day. You are welcome to attend your child's Christmas party instead.
- 2023-24 Visitor Expectations
- Please read this document carefully and follow these expectations when visiting.
- PARTY TIMES (YOU MUST CHECK IN FOR PARTIES AT THE FRONT OFFICE)
- CBI (12:00 - 12:30)
- Kindergarten - Second (1:00 - 1:30)
- Third - Fifth (1:45 - 2:15)
- If you have more than one student and will attend both party times, please wait in your car or in the cafeteria during the transition.
- HCES students will only attend their class' Christmas party. Students may not leave their party to attend their sibling's party.
- Non-HCE siblings/students are not permitted to attend HCE parties, so please make arrangements for other children (under the age of 18) who are not students at HCE.
- During the party, teachers will have a sign-out sheet for you to use to sign out your student, as opposed to signing out in the office. IMPORTANT: PLEASE do not remove students from classrooms without signing them out with their teacher, as we will use these to determine which students left with parents.
THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to complete the CKH Parent Survey! If you haven't had the opportunity to do so, there is still time. Please access the link below.
We appreciate your support with this!

Weekly Encouragement
Letting children become independent can be difficult for parents, especially those whose own parents were overbearing. However, the end goal of parenting is to help form individuals who can independently contribute to society. By developing autonomy when children are young, they begin to experience small degrees of independence. Parents who let their children try things and explore the world around them, within good reason, give their children choice and control over their own decisions and outcomes.
CONSEQUENCES
- In parenting, consequences can be both positive and negative. Consequences are a result of actions or choices taken. In some cases, a child who does a good deed or is helpful will receive positive consequences such as an increase in allowance or a smile from a parent. When a child chooses to do something that is harmful or against the rules, they may receive negative consequences such as a timeout or the lack of a privilege. Parents need to instill a system of positive and negative consequences in children so that they understand that their choices have repercussions in the broader world.
Routine and a stable environment are extremely important in positive child development. Children who know what to expect can become more confident in how their family and parents support them. Consistency in time and routine is important so that children get used to what comes next. Additionally, consistency in parental reactions is important. Children need to know that when they do something wrong, they can expect their parents to respond in a certain way and not be afraid of that response.
- Parents who care show acceptance and affection to their children. They recognize that children enter the world with their own temperaments and they support their children in becoming independent. Parents who care do not withhold physical or emotional affection. They praise their children and offer physical signs of love to show care.
