From the Coaches and Players,

We know that our program is much bigger than the just the current players. Many young men and their parents have passed through our gym in a effort to build the program. We appreciate everyone's support and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

The 2018-2019 Panther basketball team kicked off their season by participating in a Jamboree at Ray-Pec High School. The jamboree is designed to give the Panthers an opportunity to play in a practice game before real games actually start. The Panthers played against Park Hill, Platte County, and Higginsville. The Panthers and Coaches learned a lot throughout the night. The Panthers have many parts that could be good additions to this year's team. The Panthers show the ability to shoot the basketball, they share the ball and are committed to being a quality defensive team. All in all, it was a good night for the Panthers.

Throughout the season the Panthers will have visitors share their knowledge with them. These lessons are part are designed to help the young men be successful in their lives after basketball is concluded.

One of the visitors was Coach Don Edwards. Coach Edwards has been a principal in the Lawson and Jefferson School District around 30 years. He won several state titles and is in the Coach's Hall of Fame for both basketball and softball. Coach Edwards served for many years on the Missouri State High School Activity Association Board. He is one of the most respected educators in Northwest Missouri. He brought a wealth of knowledge to the young players, talking mainly about how to be successful both on and off the court. Coach Edwards was Coach Jermain's high school coach.

The boys basketball team also asked the girls and boys cross country teams, who finished third and ninth in the state, to come in and visit with the players. The teams talked about how much hard work was put in to be successful and how the offseason is such an important part of what they did. Our players hope to learn some of the lessons that the cross country runners taught and use it to their advantage in the upcoming season.

The final visit to highlight was Jack Hopkins, Hopkins serves as a Community Bank of Raymore leader. He is an integral part of the community, volunteering both his time and effort to prepare community opportunities. Jack Hopkins talked to the players about what it is like to give back and how it helps people become victorious.

We look forward to more visits such as these as the season continues.

"Good Neighbors, Strong Community" is a meeting that took place at the high school on November 17th. The Raymore-Peculiar Student Leadership Team (SLT) helped navigate over 400 individuals who took part in the event. The event was designed to help educate the community on how to be a better neighbor. Items such as mental health, internet safety, the Big Brothers foundation, and getting involved were just a few of the things discussed. Some of our basketball players are members of the Student Leadership Team and helped with the event.
