BES Families,

This has been the BESt first week of school we've ever had! Our students are doing a wonderful job adjusting to their new schedules and routines, and they are doing an outstanding job of following school expectations. Our building has been full of smiles, joy, and happiness! Thank you for sending us such amazing little people to work with each day!

Moving forward, all students will be expected to walk into the building & to their classrooms independently during arrival from 7:00-7:30. We have staff available in our atrium who can assist students with finding their classrooms if necessary. However, we have been SUPER impressed with how well even our youngest students are doing with already knowing where to go. We have the smartest kids at BES!

Each month, The Bethlehem Star will go out to our families to keep you informed about school happenings. Please be sure your contact information is up-to-date so you don't miss any of our communications.

Each Friday, we show our school pride by wearing school colors (yellow, blue, white) and/or BES Spirit Wear. If you haven't had an opportunity to check out the selection of spirit wear available, please click HERE.

The online store closes AUGUST 21. We expect to have the merchandise the first week of September. There will be additional opportunities throughout the year to purchase items if you are unable to do so at this time.

We are so excited about BES Commitment Night. This year, we have a concerted focus on our partnership with our families. This event will help us all get to know each other a little better as we commit to working together as a team! There will be two informational sessions offered. The first session will begin at 6:00 and the second session will begin at 6:30. Families will visit their child's classroom to hear a message from our principal, Mrs. Reid, and hear from the teacher about what to expect in the classroom/school this school year. Families will also learn about our school-family compact and will have the opportunity to sign-on for a great year!

Following the informational session, students will receive a certificate and special gift along with a photo opportunity, and Kona Ice will be onsite and available for families to purchase. We hope to see you there!

#CommittotheSTARS

The character focus for the month of August is RESPECT. Respect is seeing value in all people and things and treating them with care. Respect also happens to be a part of one of our school-wide expectations. Ask your child about the 3 Be's! At BES, we expect everyone to Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. We have been learning how we can show those expectations in all areas of the building. Our students have also been learning how to walk in a READY line when traveling from place to place in the building. When we are in line it is time to shine!

In addition to learning how to show respect this month, we have some "skills of the week" that will coincide with those lessons. Next week, we will be learning and practicing how to greet others.

How to Greet Others:

1. Look at the person.

2. Use a pleasant voice.

3. Say, "Hi, hello, good morning, etc."

We have already been working on "Good Morning!" Some of our students may be able to share the good morning song with you that Mrs. Reid sings if her "good morning" is not reciprocated. It's a fun way to remind them. The students have been doing a very nice job with this skill already!

Thank you to those of you who have shown interest in our PTO! We will be having a meeting in our school's cafeteria on Tuesday, August 22 at 5:30 PM. We hope to see you there!

We are required to conduct one fire drill per month, one tornado/weather drill per semester, and one lockdown/intruder drill per quarter. These drills are done in order to prepare all students and staff for what to do should we have an emergency.

I also want to reassure our families that we take safety and security very seriously. Our doors are locked at all times, and we regularly check our building and grounds to ensure we are secure.

We will have more information to you soon, but we wanted to let everyone know that School Picture Day will be Thursday, September 14. At BES, we only do school photos in the Fall. We do not do Spring pictures.
