Valentine's Day Parties
Your child's teacher will contact you if they are in need of treats or volunteers. If your child's teacher requests treats, please ensure they are individually wrapped and store-bought. This is for student safety and allergies.
If you are asked to volunteer in a classroom, you will need to bring your ID to check in and ensure you have a background check on file. If you are selected to volunteer, please arrive when your teacher requests you to.
PARKING: You may park in the overflow parking in the old middle school lot if our front and side lots are full. Please do not park in the bus lanes in the north lot and please do not park along the drive in the front of the school. We have buses that enter both our north lot and in front of our school. It is also imperative that volunteers leave the building at 2:00 p.m. This is to ensure our parking lots are clear for students dismissing (which begins at 2:10 for our transfer students). Please enter through Door 1 to check in for volunteering.
Winter Recess
All students will be required to go outside for recess unless they have a note from their parents requesting that they be permitted to stay in because of a recent illness. If a child is to stay in for more than three days, a note from the child’s doctor stating the reason for the restriction is required.
During the winter months, parents should ensure their children are properly dressed to play outside in cold weather and in the snow. Students will go outside for recess if the temperature is above 10 degrees with the wind chill factored in. The weather station at
Lowell Middle School is used to determine the air temperature and wind speed. This information can be accessed by going to weatherbug.com.
If there is any snow on the ground, students should wear snow boots to recess. High-top tennis shoes, hiking boots, or shoes that would be worn for the remainder of the day, leave students with wet feet if alternative footwear is not available. We encourage students to not wear snow boots for the entire day. Students without snow boots will be required to play on the blacktop areas.
Weather Related Delays and Closures
Cancellations:
- The decision to delay or cancel school has to be made no later than 5:30 a.m. due to bus routes.
- A decision to delay or cancel school is posted on the school corporation website (https://www.tricreek.k12.in.us/) and communicated to the Emergency Closing Center (WGN 720 AM, WBBM 780 AM, CBS channel 2, NBC channel 5, ABC channel 7, FOX 32, WGN-TV, and CLTV), WJOB 1230 AM, WLTH 1370 AM, WLJE 105.5 FM, WZVN 107.1 FM, and WAKE 1500 AM. An automated telephone call is also placed to each Tri-Creek family.
- If school is canceled, we may use an alternative date to make up the day as shown on the district calendar.
- Please ensure your child's emergency plan is updated with the office. If we dismiss early, we follow the Emergency Form filled out at the beginning of the school year.
- If school is dismissed early due to weather, be sure your child has a key to get into the house or is aware of an alternate plan to stay with a neighbor. You will receive a phone message from the district if the school were going to be dismissed early. Due to the limited number of phone lines in the office, we ask families to listen to the phone message before calling the school to help keep phone lines open.
FOG DELAY/INCLEMENT WEATHER SCHEDULE:
- Two Hour Delay: Bus schedules run two hours later than normal.
- Student drop-off at Door 7 begins 9:30 a.m. with gates opening at 9:20 a.m.
- School begins at 10:00 a.m.
Transportation Changes
1. Please send in a note to your child's teacher communicating any transportation changes.
2. If there are permanent changes to transportation, please contact the school office at 696-9285.
3. If you are calling the day of a transportation change, please try to call as early in the day as possible and not after 1:30 p.m. We have early transfer buses and late calls may impact our ability to get your child to their appropriate place.
Please try to limit daily calls to update transportation. This creates the potential for error by the adults who monitor where students go when changes are made daily.
We appreciate your help in ensuring that our students are transferred home safely.

News from Physical Education
In Physical Education class this week, we have been playing a game called Cannonball. Teams are on boats (2 scooters with mats on top of them)
*Captains are throwing balls at other teams’ boats to knock off cones. If they are successful in this, they get to put the cone on their boat. Students are working on throwing for accuracy at a target. They are also working on teamwork, pulling, pushing, collecting and gathering. This game is a great cardiovascular game that also works out their hamstrings and gluteus maximus muscles for the motor person who pushes the captain around. Students love this game!News from Music
In addition to playing recorders and learning more complex rhythms, our 5th-grade students have learned about the instrument families available to them when they join LMS as 6th graders next year. They watched the LMS band and choirs perform on Jan. 24 and completed instrument try-outs for band on Jan. 26. Fifth-grae parents, be on the lookout for more information from LMS in the upcoming months!

Sam Gill
Alyson Bird
Emily Schaefer
Robyn Plonczynski
Nicole Nigh
