Happy National Arts in Education Week!
Here are just a few examples of how arts are celebrated in our schools everyday.
Middle School Art
High School Advanced Theater Class
7th Grade Artist
PALs Class
The PALs Class extended their learning on emotions and the role of our PALs training by playing a game of SQUASH! The game of squash becomes a metaphor for the knowledge they receive in their PALs training. One PAL was able to hold all of the other PALs at the same time. Look at how strong we can be when we have support and a solid foundation!
Scholarship Winners
Congratulations to Olivia Stein and Mia House, the winners of the 4one2 Cares scholarship sponsored by Royal Radiance Jewelry. Students were presented with the award at the 3rd Annual Hot Air Balloon Festival. WUS appreciates the way our community partners work alongside the school to support our students.
Building Connections
Last week, School Resource Officer Schaefer visited Mrs. Shafer's 3rd grade class at Steeby Elementary, and he and the class got to talking about fishing. He happened to be going on a nice weekend fishing trip last weekend, and the kids told him to kiss the fish if he caught one. Officer Schaefer revisited the class on Monday, September 11th, with his pictures of his King Salmon from Lake Michigan, him KISSING the fish, and then a beautiful sunset photo with a Great Lakes Freighter. The class loved it! This is an incredible example of the relationships that WUS staff develop with students in order to create a climate of belonging, safety and learning.
8th Grade Egg Drop Project
Students in Mr. Brown's class worked with partners to create a contraption to protect an egg from breaking when it gets thrown off the middle school roof.
Classroom Communication
Mrs. Smallegan’s class has 2 stellar students who use “talker” apps on their iPads to help them communicate. Recently, Mrs. Evans from Allegan ESA came and showed the class how these devices work so that students can understand and include all students in their classroom activities.
College Visit
WHS juniors and seniors visited Grand Valley State University this week. Students enjoyed an admissions presentation, walking tour of campus and lunch! Campus visits are a great opportunity to see and feel what college life is really like.
