Sunday Gospel Challenges - Living Our Faith
Justice Challenge - November 5, 2023 • 31st Week in Ordinary Time
November is Native American Heritage Month. One of the most precious gifts which Native Americans have given to our country is their deep respect for God’s creation. They remind us that nature is a gift from God to be treasured and protected. As Chief Seattle said in his eloquent address to the U.S. Congress in 1854, “Every part of this soil is sacred in the estimation of my people. Every hillside, every valley, every plain and grove, has been hallowed by some sad or happy event in days long vanished.” Your challenge this week is to choose one action you can do to protect our planet. It might involve better recycling, or deciding not to drink bottled water. It might be taking a bus or walking instead of using your car for a quick trip to the store. Reduce your carbon footprint while honoring our Native American brothers and sisters this month. At the end of the week, make a commitment to protecting the environment by taking the St. Francis Pledge (CatholicClimateCovenant.org).
Care for Creation Tips - November 5, 2023 • 31st Week in Ordinary Time
As winter approaches and heating bills creep higher, remember what Pope Francis wrote in Laudato Si’: “A person who could afford to spend and consume more but regularly uses less heating and wears warmer clothes, shows the kind of convictions and attitudes which help to protect the environment.” The next time you think of turning up the heat, put on another layer of clothes or cuddle up with a blanket instead.
