Band students attend MidFest
Back in December, 8th-grade band students Pablo Parra and Maren Garber joined more than 350 middle school band students from across the state to attend the University of Georgia's Middle School Band Festival, commonly known as MidFest. We are very proud of Pablo and Maren's initiative and hard work as they auditioned for and participated in this exciting opportunity!
Campus notes
The ACCESS testing window for EL (English Learner) students will begin today and will continue through Friday, March 4. If you have an EL student, you will receive communication from your student’s ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) teacher providing more detailed information.
As we return to campus and in-person learning for Spring Semester, please be reminded of The GLOBE Academy uniform policies, which can be found in detail in our Family Handbook here. We also sent out an email last week regarding dress code and particular things to pay attention to.
Please review the dress code with your GLOBE student(s). Anticipate that we will be resetting expectations for dress code on BOTH campuses over the coming weeks, and may speak directly with students, reach out to parents, and/or ask for parents to bring in alternative clothing as needed. Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
Upper Campus

Will your student return next August for the 2022-2023 school year? The completion of the 'Intent to Return' form will be due Friday, February 4, 2022. Current students do not need to enter the lottery each year.
New siblings intending to enroll at GLOBE must enter into the lottery. If you have siblings to apply for the lottery, information is included in the survey. Click here to view more details about re-enrollment and siblings.
GLOBE Sports
Tennis try-outs start today
The first tryouts will start today at Leslie Beach Tennis Courts from 4pm until 6pm and will continue tomorrow (January 13) at the same time. There will be further opportunities on January 19 and 20.
To take part in the tryouts, students will need to bring a racquet, water bottle and you must have a physical on file. We ask that students attend at least one of the days or all if you are interested and if your schedule allows. Teams will be announced by January 21, 2022.
Girls soccer tryouts
Tryouts for the girls soccer team are scheduled for February 1 and 2, from 4pm to 5pm at Silverbacks Field.
Basketball news
The Girls and Boys A Team defeated The Museum School this week. You can watch the game highlights here. The Boys B Team lost by only 2 points and played extremely hard with the final score being 26-24. A job well done by everybody!
We have rescheduled Renfroe MS for Monday, January 24th and Atlanta Classical for February 1st. All of the details of each game remain the same except the dates have been changed.
The Yearbook needs your photos
How did your family celebrate the holidays?
Did your son play B team soccer?
Did your student work on a science project (science fair)?
GLOBE requires photos of these events to include in the yearbook. This year, we are using RePlayIt to collect suitable photos for the yearbook. Click here to upload yours (user ID is 416725960). When prompted for a caption, please only list the students’ names and grades. If you haven't ordered your yearbook, you can order it here.
Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC)
If you are interested in volunteering for Science Week (end of February) or Field Day (in May), please email classpac.globeacademy@gmail.com.
Extended Care Program (ECP)
Registration for GLOBE Enrichment spring classes is open. There are enrichment options available Monday through Friday afternoons at both Upper and Lower Campus. Visit our website for class information. We also have a limited number of aftercare spaces available. Email cclines@theglobeacademy.net for details.
COVID Corner
As we return to campus for the Spring Semester, we want to explain some important COVID-19 Health and Safety protocols which will help protect the entire GLOBE community. As COVID-19 cases surge around the country and in our community, it is vital that each person does their part to keep themselves and those around them safe.
Our first line of defense for safely continuing in-person learning is by participating in our screening testing program with Viral Solutions. Viral Solutions will be back on campus next week to provide all students and staff with access to free rapid antigen testing. If you signed your student up for any of the past clinics this semester, you do not need to fill out the consent form again; they will be tested each week. If you have not filled out the consent form but wish for your child to access weekly COVID-19 testing, please sign up here.
Vaccination clinic at Upper Campus on Saturday, January 22
Our second, increasingly important, line of defense is that of widespread vaccination coverage. We are excited to announce that GLOBE is hosting a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at Upper Campus on Saturday, January 22. CORE Response will be providing vaccines for 5-11 year olds as well as vaccines and boosters for everyone 12 and older. This event is open to all members of the public, so bring your friends from nearby schools as well! More information on how to sign up will be released at the end of this week. We are thrilled to learn that nearly 50% of our GLOBE students are fully vaccinated, but there is still a long way to go. If your GLOBE student is fully vaccinated against COVID-19 please report their vaccination status here. If you or your child are looking for a place to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, look no further than The GLOBE Academy on January 22!
Our third line of defense lies in our continued vigilance in employing the prevention measures we implemented last semester. For the time being our mandatory mask mandate, quarantine and isolation policies, and other prevention guidelines outlined in the updated COVID-19 Health and Safety Playbook (version 2) will remain in place as we return for Spring Semester. Although the CDC has recently updated their quarantine and isolation guidance, we do not know how Omicron is going to behave inside of classrooms and do not want to roll back our mitigation measures without this information. We plan to extensively track GLOBE-specific data in the next few weeks and will meet with our team of Emory epidemiologists when we have a better understanding of the transmission dynamics inside of our own classrooms. We will be sure to update the whole community should our quarantine/isolation guidelines change in based on the data we collect in the next few weeks. In the meantime, we encourage all GLOBE members to wear a well-fitting N95 or KN95 mask which can be found here, among other places.
