Teacher Appreciation Month
Buchanan High School Appreciates our teachers!
We love our teachers so much we're celebrating for the whole month!
Mrs. Russell and Mr. Kurtzweil
Here's what the students say about them:
Mrs. Russell is one of the most wholesome people I've ever met. From the moment I met her, I knew she was the right fit for this program. She lights up whatever room she walks into with a smile from ear to ear. She comes in every day wanting us to be the best we can be and pushed us to make state finals last November. Sure, she was different from Mr. Hollandsworth but I'm confident that when the class of 2020 leaves, she can pick up right where she left off.
I like Mrs. Russel because she has been an amazing band director. Even though this is her first year at Buchanan I think she has done a good job at trying to fill Mr. Hollandsworth's shoes.
My fifth hour teacher is Mrs. Russell. She was the new teacher for band this year, and us people in 8th grade, still really missed Mr. Hollandsworth and I think she knew that, but what's cool is that, that didn't stop her, she still created relationships with some of the students. Plus she likes Harry Potter as much as me, which I thought was cool, even though she's a Slytherin and I am a Hufflepuff.
Mrs. Russell - Thank you for trying your hardest to keep the band moving.
Mrs. Russel, This year was a strange one for band kids all around. Getting a new band director was a very different thing to have happen and a weird thing to have to adapt to. Band has always thrown challenges my way and this year gave me a big one. I had to learn a lot this year. I was a section leader for the first time, we had a tough show, and we had to learn a new person. Even though this was a struggle, I feel I grew a lot. When I put aside my upset feeling and trusted you, the year became more fun. I had tons of fun in New York and I’m glad we had that trip this year because I think it became a bonding time for all of the band kids. It gave us a time outside of the class room to get to know you and that was a lot of fun. In little Italy at dinner, you sat at my table. I got to know you a lot in that short amount of time and it was very fun, I remember laughing a lot. I really liked getting to stay after school with you like everyday because I got to know you even more and I have many fond memories of conversations with you after school. I really felt like I could talk to you about so many things. We got off topic a lot but it was super fun. Even though this year was tough I really liked it and I really like you as our band director. Thanks for coming to us when we needed someone and staying through the rough transition. You amazing and I can’t wait to see what next year brings!
Mrs. Russell: I love her a lot. It made me sad to because there was a bit of a push back, but I definitely think the band is in good hands. It’s hard being a new teacher, let alone a band teacher. I also enjoyed talking to her and Scott, and getting advice from both of them when I needed it.
Scott: I know he’s doesn’t have the title as teacher but he also deserves it. He’s literally the best. I could go to him with anything and he’d always be there to help. He’s a talented musician, and a great teacher.
Band means a lot to me, and everybody who has touched me in that class deserves recognition.
My sixth hour teacher is Mrs. Russell. Band is one of my favorite classes, and it's led me to a lot of great memories. I'm gonna stay in it, and learn even more.
Mrs. Russel: I love how she teaches us multiple different ways so we understand... She is also always letting us in on tricks to help us..
Mr. Kurtzweil: I enjoy how he tries his best and even if he makes mistakes he laugh at it.
Mrs. Russell really made an effort to get to know each of her students this year.
