Pocket Watch
Adam Crumly
The Invention
The pocket watch was invented so that clocks did not have to be powered by falling weight for the source of power instead it was small and portable. They were often egg shaped and bulky but the invention of the screw made it so that they could be hold them and make them smaller.
The Inventor
Peter Henlein was the inventor of the pocket watch or was at least given credit. He was a German inventor. At the start of the pocket watch they were worn around the neck as a pendent.
Bring The Pocket Watch To Life
Peter Henlein was also the person that made his invention spread. By 1524 peter was making pocket watch regularly. This made his invention spread across Europe through out the 16th century.
The Year
The pocket watch was invented in 1510. Soon after this they were making pocket watches regularly. They spread to the rest of Europe in the 16th century
How It Worked
Clocks in the 15th century were worked by pull weights. peter made it so that the pocket watch did not have to use pull weights. It was worked by mainspring power which means that it was worked by a spring. It was egg shaped and big so the invention of the screw made it smaller and slimmer.
How Its Changed
The first pocket watches were big and egg shaped. With the invention of the screw it has been able to slim down and now it is a slimmer round shape. They made it so that it could fit into your pocket and not be worn around your neck. With the invention of the cell phone we don't really use pocket watches much any more. we get a watch in our pocket at all times so it took a falling out.
