Dear CMIT Parents/Guardians,
The 2024-2025 lottery for Charter Schools is now open! If your child has any siblings that are not currently enrolled in Chesapeake Math & IT North, but you wish to enroll them, now is the time to enter for a seat for the upcoming school year. Please be mindful that a sibling is a brother or sister by blood, marriage, or adoption. They must be living in the same household (friends, cousins or two separate families living under the same roof do not qualify as siblings.) If your potential student does not have a student ID number please reach out to your boundary school to obtain one.

Have you applied/reapplied for Free and Reduced Priced Meals?
Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income. If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.
Changes and/or status changes occur every year. This year there will be a price category change as of October 11, 2023. Please be sure to apply or reapply in the event your price category is affected by this change.

Attendance
Please note we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann, Dr. Fryson and Mrs. Virgil.

ABSENT NOTE SUBMISSION: Please complete this form within three (3) days once your child returns to instruction. Excused absences cannot be placed into SchoolMax until AFTER the child returns to instruction. Family vacations and trips are not considered excused absences. Refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook for further clarification regarding excused and unexcused absences.

Nurse Updates
Nurse Ann and the School Health Services strongly recommend wearing a mask and keeping one available in your child's backpack.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

Kind Kindergarten News!
Hello Kindergarten Families:
Winter is finally here; please make sure that your scholar is dressed appropriately for the weather for outdoor recess.
ELA: We will review what we learned in unit 2 and will have our assessment by the end of the week.
Social Studies: We will work on the geography of a neighborhood.
Math:We will continue working on addition and subtraction, using manipulatives.
Science: We will review our seasons and severe weather and have our science quiz at the end of the week.
*Your scholar should be working on their stem fair project.
Upcoming Event
January 29, 2024 STEM fair project is due.
*Friendly reminder: If your scholar is sick or not feeling well, please keep them home. They should not be in school with a fever or a cough that disrupts their ability to focus during lessons.

The first grade team would like to wish you and your families a wonderful break. When we return the students will review classroom rules and expectations; as well as continue with their lessons. If needed, please have your scholar refresh any supplies for their pencil box. Homework will resume the week of the 8th.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
Happy Hollidays! The Second Grade Team had a wonderful time during our winter "STEM" activities. Thank you to each and everyone of you who donated items and/or volunteered to assist us during the week. Upon our return back from the holidays, we will be completing Unit 2 theme Nature's Wonders. In Math, we will finish up topic 7, more solving problems involving addition and subtraction and prepare for the assessment. We will also prepare for Topic 8 which focuses on identifying and counting coins and bills, solving word problems about money, and telling time. Over the break, please work with your scholar using examples like, what is the total value of each coin, what does the long had tell you (hour), what about the short hand (minutes), etc. In Science, we will continue with topic 3, Earth's Water and Land. In Social Studies, we will continue topic 3, Government.
As we return to school for the new year, we kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness. Lastly,
we hope you enjoy spending time with your family and friends. Happy New Year!

Third Grade
Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 3: Lesson 6 Creating a New Nation.
In Math, we are still working on strategies to effectively add and subtract, involving estimating and rounding as well. We'll be sending out our extra credit for the upcoming test.
In Science, scholars are finishing up our unit on weather. We'll hopefully take our assessment by the end of the week.
Fourth Grade
Weekly News!
In the new year, students will continue monitoring their comprehension to help synthesize information from multiple sources. In Social Studies, we will continue learning about our nation's economy. In Math, students will use number lines and area models to identify equivalent fractions . In Science, students will describe how the use of different natural energy resources affects the local and global environments.

Tigers have studio time this week and presentations. Classes primarily consist of independent work to finish their projects and learning how to critique their artworks. Projects include portraits, landscapes, optical art, and Notan squares. We continue to stress craftsmanship and completion.

Hi!! K-2nd are learning how to create their own rhythms! 3rd-5th grade students are learning about meters and the difference between the main beat of a song and the rhythm that goes on top and how to identify note value patterns when listening to songs!

K-2 students practiced- Introduction to Digital Citizenship: Cyberbullying:
This colorful and engaging video introduces students to the basics of dealing with cyberbullying on the internet.
3-5 students practiced-Troubleshooting Basics for Online Learning:
In this animated video, Trey and Summer help fellow classmates and a teacher troubleshoot some technical problems related to the virtual classroom. Topics include no internet, no audio and downloading software.
PE
Hello, this week in PE, we are just reviewing things we have covered this year so far. As we prepare for winter break, I just want to make sure we remember the safety rules in order to maintain a safe and fun environment.
STEM I
Greetings! K-2 are customizing their very own lego glasses and working on a Holiday lego build.
3-5 are working on Holiday designs while also doing STEM review kahoots.

Next week, Kinder scholars are exploring what is the best material for the roof of a dog house that will keep a dog cool on a sunny day. First grade scholars are continuing our new unit exploring the weather exploring extreme weather conditions. Second grade scholars are continuing to construct the bridges for the scenarios that their group was given. Third grade scholars are continuing to design and build their pinball machines. Fourth grade scholars are brainstorming and designing their new car safety feature., Fifth grade scholars are using what they learned about matter to help them develop two formulas for their stepping stone.
