School is Right Around the Corner!
The start of the school year is about ONE week away! The first day of school for students is Tuesday, August 22.
Central Elementary has undergone several big projects this summer. Central was under construction all summer as a new HVAC unit was installed and a new playground was placed. Both projects are exciting for us as they are both big upgrades. Students will absolutely love the new playground. We are excited to get our students and teachers back in the building.
Below is some additional information to get you to start thinking and planning for the start of the school year. Pay close attention to the details around registration and the dates of events.
As is always the case, please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to help and support our students and families.

Don't Forget to Register Your Student
All students need to be registered every year for school. If you haven't already done so, please visit our webpage to get them registered as soon as possible. Go to the parent drop down tab and click on the Tyler SIS Parent Portal.
Important Transportation Note: If your student is going to ride the bus, you must complete the online transportation form for them to be able to ride the bus. Your student will not be permitted to ride the bus until this form is completed. This form is part of the registration process.
Kindergarten Popsicles on the Playground
On Tuesday, August 15, we will be hosting all incoming kindergarten students and parents for our Popsicles on the Playground meet and greet. The purpose of this event is to have our incoming kindergarten students meet their teachers and start to build relationships before the first day of school. The first day of kindergarten for our students can stressful and we want to ease the stress for our students as much as possible. Popsicles on Playground starts at 5:00pm and will end at 6:00pm. Kindergarten teachers and building principals will meet students and parents in staff parking lot on the side of the gym.
5 Strategies to Help Kids Start the School Year Strong
- Validate Feelings: Whether students are starting a new grade or new school, it can be scary. Give kids the opportunity to share their feelings about starting school and validate those feelings by letting them know it's normal to feel that way.
- Focus on the Positive: Starting school can cause anxiety. Make a list of all the fun things they're looking forward to during the school year.
- Set Goals: Having goals set ahead of the school year for the first few weeks helps them feel accomplished and more confident. Make goals unique to your child: reading a book, waking up on time, making new friends, etc.
- Connect With Friends: Get your child together with friends, including new friends who will be in class with them. Encourage them to talk about what they are looking forward to as the school year starts and what they might be nervous about.
- Visit the School, Meet with Teachers, and Talk with Principals: Connect with the us to set up a meeting if needed to discuss how we can best support your child(ren).
