Message from Mrs. Ward

We had a successful spirit week as we prepared for vacation. Students celebrated Valentine's Day, marked the 100th day of school, and relaxed in their pajamas. As we focused on being a community connected to each other, students created a paper chain highlighting what it means being connected to one another.

After our restful vacation, we will return to school under a new COVID guidance. The whole school will gather to listen to a book about respecting differences. This book will be used to highlight the fact that each child will make a decision with their family on whether or not they will wear a mask in school. Students will be reminded that we always respect differences, including having some students wearing masks and some students not wearing masks. There are two places all students will need to continue to mask, on the bus and when visiting the nurse's office.

Please remember we are a part of your team! If you child is struggling with any aspect of the new rules, please let us know. It is important that home and school work closely together.

Book of the Week!

This week's story was, The Invisible Web, by Patrice Karst. This story is about how we are all connected to one another and goes along with our PBIS theme of the month, Connectedness.

PBIS Assembly

This past Monday we kicked off our Monthly theme of ‘Connectedness’ in our all school meeting, starting with our weekly read aloud with the book The Invisible Web, by Patrice Karst and Joanne Lew-Vriethoff. This book illustrates how all things in life are connected to one another. Next, we got silly with a throwback staff video from the spring of 2020! Mrs. Henry and Mrs. Franke discussed the lyrics of the song, highlighting the ideas that as a school and community, we are connected and have a shared experience, and despite our differences, we are here for one another to celebrate our uniqueness, together. Finally, Mrs. Dempsey introduced a school- wide ‘connectedness chain’, in which each student wrote down one way they feel connected at Hatherly school, and we will be linking all our chains into one, on display in the lobby.

Tip of the Week from PEAR

One thing the past two years have taught us is that there is so much that is outside of our control. That knowledge can feel overwhelming and can lead to inaction. When you feel overwhelmed it can be helpful to make a list of things that are within your sphere of control and things you can influence. Some of them may be small, but naming the ways you are able to shape the world around you can be a good reminder of the agency you do have.

Valentine's Pencil Sales

The Student Government raised $144.00 through the Valentine Pencil sale. This year, the collected money will go to Veterans, Inc., a highly rated non-profit organization whose goal is to end homeless for veterans in our state. Getting to know you! Mrs. Fairbank

Mrs. Fairbank is one of our third grade teachers and has been at Hatherly for almost 10 years. She has a beautiful family consisting of her son Henry (1.5), husband Brian, and dog Teddy. Mrs. Fairbank lives in Cohasset and loves trips to the local beaches. Some of Mrs. Fairbank’s favorite things to do include going on walks in the woods, taking photographs of nature, and learning new things about Science. Another hobby of Mrs. Fairbank’s is crafting, especially scrapbooking. When Mrs. Fairbank can enjoy some time to herself she enjoys a bagel at Gunther Tooties and a ride by the ocean.
