The Beginning
Fats Domino was born Antoine Dominique Jr. in 9th Ward, New Orleans. He was born in the year 1928. The Domino family were of French Creole background. His father was a well-known violinist and Domino was inspired to play himself. He eventually learned from his uncle
Early Career
Billy Diamond, a New Orleans bandleader, found Domino when he agreed to an invitation to hear a young pianist perform at a backyard barbecue in 1947.b Domino impressed Diamond very much. Diamond called him "Fats" because he reminded him of Fats Walker and Fats Pichon.
Middle Career
Fats Domino created "The Fat Man" in 1949. It is considered one of the first rock and roll records. Dave Bartholomew was Fats Domino's co-writer, producer, and bandleader. Fats Domino and Dave Bartholomew created "Ain't That a Shame" in 1955. Fats Domino sold 65 million records which is more than any other 50's rocker other than Elvis Presley.
Later Career
His induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and invitation to perform live in the White House failed to persuade Domino to leave New Orleans. By the end of his career, Domino was credited with more charted rock hits than any other classic rock artist except for Elvis Presley.
