News, Updates & Reminders:
* Parent/Guardian Homework! Yes, that's right, you have homework! 😊 We appreciate your quick response in completing and returning the Back to School packet as soon as possible. Packets will be sent home the first day of school. Thank you!
* For those families with two households, we would appreciate it if you could provide the school with the most recent parental custody agreements. This information is essential for us to support your family structures and keep students safe. Please also let us know if we should be providing additional copies of school forms and report cards.
* The bus route is attached below. Please note that several changes have been made since it was first posted on Facebook. Those changes are included in the link below. It is likely that the route will change again the first week, so we appreciate your patience. It is also recommended that students be at their stop 10 minutes prior to your designated time, especially during the first week.
* The School Committee will be meeting on Monday, 8/28 at 5:00pm. We will be discussing a few important items, including: Nut Policy & Aftercare Program. The agenda is attached and as always you are welcome and encouraged to attend.
* Below is a link to the 23-24 Emma Miller School Student Handbook. All families will be asked to sign a form stating that you have read the handbook. This form will be sent home on the first day of school. This year we ask you to please pay close attention to our Attendance Policy. Now that we have emerged from the COVID emergency, student attendance will be more closely monitored and enforced. We appreciate your support in assuring that your student is on time and present each day. (School hours are 8:30am-2:55pm, half days are 8:30-11:30am.)
* The Aftercare Program will be available each afternoon from 3:00-6:00pm. Families will need to complete an Aftercare packet to register and it will be sent home on the first day of school. If you would like to send your student on the first day, you are welcome to do so, but we do ask that you send a note or email letting us know. Payments for the program are due the week prior to anticipated attendance and invoices are sent at the beginning of each week. We allow registrations the first week of each new trimester and appreciate a family's commitment for the whole trimester. The cost for the program will be determined during Monday's school committee meeting.
* This year Emma Miller continues with our No Homework policy. We do however, always encourage our students to study their spelling words, practice math facts, and/or read nightly for at least 20 minutes.
Planning Ahead:
* The Savoy Loop Race is just around the corner and we are in need of a lot of volunteers. If you are able to help out, please follow the link below. Thank you for your consideration.
* Also, we are asking for family support through a donation of lottery, scratch tickets. We will be creating a Lottery Tree as one of the raffle items for the race. More information about this will be sent home on Wednesday. Again, thank you for your support.
* The Ice Cream Social/Open House will take place on Thursday, Sept. 7th at 6:00pm. All families are welcome. This event is sponsored by the PTG.
PTG Updates & Reminders:
* The PTG is looking for new members. Please consider joining this hard working and dedicated group of parents. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 5th at 5:00pm.
Health & Safety:
* Emma Miller is no longer a Nut-Free school. Children are now able to bring in food that contains nuts and peanuts.
* We worry about our students when they are absent or tardy. Please call the office or email the classroom teacher and Nurse Kate, if your student will be either. Nurse Kate will follow up with a phone call, if we have not received word about a student's absence. If they are going to be late, we appreciate your student's lunch choice, so we can order it in the morning. Thank you.
* If your child needs a prescription medicine dispensed during the school day, please contact Nurse Kate at kraimer@savoyelementary.com. Parents/Guardians will need to come into school and drop off the medication and sign a few forms.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Tierney
