SC Chronicles

Students grades 5th-8th participated in a STEM activity on December 3rd. The activity involved learning about product design and ultimately creating a product to assist people with an oral health issue. Huge thanks to community volunteer Kelsy M. for guiding students through the process.

The students in theatre class studied stage makeup in December. They learned the basics of highlights/shadows which enabled them to do old age makeup. The class also chose an animal to portray on their faces. We had cows, penguins, birds, pugs, and pandas. Then they ventured into learning how to make bruises, scrapes and scars as well as latex wrinkles. They ended their unit with fantasy makeup. They created flowers, paintings, and other natural works of art and depicted them with artistic flair on their faces.

8th grade science students worked with popsicles sticks and glue to create structures incorporating earthquake-proof building concepts.

Students taking Health Careers over ITV practiced common stitching patterns used by medical professionals.

In early December, the students taking EMT used clay to make 3D models of the human heart.

The FCS II students compiled holiday treats for SC staff for the 12 days leading up to Winter Break.

On December 20th, students went bowling and enjoyed an afternoon of various fun activities. Thanks Student Council!!

Sargent Central High School Student Council did its annual Elfin Around with the Elementary. Elfin around is fun-filled activities for the elementary. It gives the Student Council an opportunity to work with younger students while having fun. The games and activities are scheduled with Pre-K through 6th grade. Typically they do a game and a craft project relating to Christmas. A few examples include making wreaths out of paper, playing bingo, and drawing snowmen blindfolded. The students really enjoy this and it’s a great way for them to get into the Christmas spirit at school before break!

Sargent Central Freshmen traveled to the Health, Tech & Trades Career Expo at the Fargo Dome. The expo is designed so that the students gain exposure to career opportunities in our region with many hands on learning experiences. The career expo helps those that have no idea, or for those that have an idea of what they want to do have a chance to try it out. But it also gives them an opportunity to explore careers that they didn’t know even existed. The expo uses the National Career Clusters Framework which represents more than 79 career pathways to help them discover their own interests which let them choose the pathway that will best suit them and lead to their own success.

Juniors attended a career fair on Wednesday December 11th. The career fair in Lisbon had many local business professionals set up for the juniors to visit with. This was an opportunity for the juniors to see what jobs were available in the areas that they are looking to pursue in our area, after they have completed college. Some examples of local organizations present were Essentia Health, Bell Bank, Sheyenne Valley Counseling Service, Pizza Ranch, and many more. The fair opened their eyes to a variety of jobs after high school for those college bound and those entering the workforce.
