Marks Recovery Plan
Section 31 of the Education Act states that a student, as a partner in education, has the responsibility to:
“Be ready to learn and actively engage in and diligently pursue the student’s education”
Throughout the year, teachers will monitor student’s progress with Formative and Summative assessments. Parents will be engaged in an ongoing dialogue with subject teachers and the homeroom teacher through PowerSchool, Google Classroom, emails and phone calls.
After the 1st and 2nd reporting periods the office will produce a list of students who are at or below 25% in their core subjects. Subject teachers will contact parents to discuss potential solutions or to set up a meeting during Parent/Teacher interviews or an independent meeting.
In a situation where a student is failing 3 or more subjects the homeroom teacher will organize a meeting with the subject teachers. During this meeting, teachers will discuss a plan to resolve the failing grades and the Homeroom teacher will inform the parent that their son/daughter will be referred to the Administration to discuss further interventions.
Upon placement of a student into Mark Recovery, student(s) will be discussed in the weekly “At-Risk” meetings in order to develop a Success Plan. The Administrative team will discuss potential solutions developed by the Subject teachers and contact parents to present the Mark Recovery Plan. A letter of the plan will also be sent from the Principal stating the plan and timelines. In conjunction, a discussion with the student to review the necessary steps for grade improvement.
