MATH EXPLANATIONS & OVERVIEWS
If you teach math and you haven't checked out Discovery's Math Explanations and Overviews, boy are you missing out! These awesome resources are short, engaging 2-5 minute mini-lesson videos recorded by teachers just like you to teach math concepts at all grade levels. The DE Streaming base package includes dozens of these cool resources, but the PLUS package has over ten thousand of them!! They're great for flipped classroom, blended and online learning, model student activities, self-directed learning, and so much more ... so if you're loving these awesome blended learning gems and want thousands more, contact Kayla Steiner at ksteiner@esc11.net for more info about your PLUS upgrade options.
GAMES MAKE LEARNING FUN!
Learning games are a great tool to help engage student-directed learning and reinforce foundation skills in a fun and meaningful way across the curriculum. Both teachers and students will find games in the Interactives section of Discovery's media library (just use the search filter to help you find them easily). They are great for whole or small group classroom activities, especially when you have an interactive white board or touch panel available, but they also work great in classroom centers, self-paced learning, and more. (want a lot more games? Ask about PLUS!)

Research shows that using music to reinforce content area instruction can clearly enhance content learning across the curriculum (learn more here and here). As we saw a couple of weeks ago, Discovery has a huge library of awesome audio resources, including over a thousand curriculum-based songs suitable for nearly all content areas and grade levels. Most songs even include printable lyrics to help facilitate student activities too. All are provided in an MP3 format and can be downloaded to use easily in multimedia projects and independent listening on all devices. Here are just a couple examples that teach MATH concepts... check them out!

LODGE MCCAMMON: THE TWO STEP (ms/hs)
SOS - Paper Slide
This week's featured SOS is PAPER SLIDE...
The Paper Slide strategy is a perfect blend of incorporating digital media with paper & pen as students analyze the content of audio media and think critically and creatively (and maybe even collaboratively too) to illustrate that content in a meaningful way and record a video on their device to blend their illustrations with the audio selection to create a unique student media project. This project is easily adapted for students at all grade levels from K to 12 and across all content areas.
