Nurse's Notes
Medication (prescription and over the counter): If your child requires medication to be administered in school, you must have a Medication Authorization Form competed by the physician. This includes ALL prescription and over the counter medication (example: Tylenol, Motrin, cough syrup, cough drops ointments, inhalers, etc.) This form can be obtained from your child’s school or on the County web page.
Student Information Update Forms: Please provide accurate information and notify the school if any information should change.
School Based Wellness Center (Medical and Dental): Basic medical needs are met for students at Colonel Richardson High School weekly during specified clinic days and dental cleanings are offered once during the year. Please contact the Health room for more information, enrollment forms, and scheduled days of service. Sports physicals are offered FREE for students who are enrolled in School Base Wellness Center.
Insurance: If you do not have health insurance for your child, you may be eligible for the Maryland Children’s Health Program. You may call 1-800-456-8900 (Hotline) or 410-479-8000 (Caroline County Health Department).
Vision and Hearing: State Law requires all students must have a Vision and Hearing screening upon entering a new school. Therefore, a basic screening will be completed as part of the entry process. Any concerns or questions please contact the Health room staff or submit a letter of refusal in writing. Results of screening will be sent home.
Parking Permits
Students who wish to drive to school need to fill out this form. The fee is $30 and you will need to provide a copy of your license, insurance, and registration. This information can be sent to Mr. Oberdorf.
School News

Applications for Class Officers are available in Mrs. Cheezum's room 504. Completed applications are due Monday, September 11.
CCPS Cannabus Messaging
As you may have heard, marijuana (referred to as cannabis in legislation) possession and use became legal on July 1, 2023 for adults 21 and older, with certain limits and restrictions.
However, nothing has changed for our students in Caroline County Public Schools. Students are still not allowed to use or have cannabis in schools, and there is no plan to change disciplinary practices.
The CCPS Student Code of Conduct (policy and regulation) states that if a student is found under the influence of drugs or controlled substances, a teacher or administrator will intervene and respond to the situation. Related service providers, such as social workers, psychologists and counselors, are also informed.
If a student is using or possessing drugs or controlled substances at school, discipline can include anything from intervention by an administrator to suspension to expulsion. School police and related service providers are notified of the situation.
Those distributing or selling drugs at school can be suspended long-term or expelled. School police and related service providers would be alerted.
Regarding cannabis education in school, the subject is already a part of Maryland’s Comprehensive Health Education Framework and is addressed at multiple grade levels, and lessons vary depending on students’ ages.

Upward Bound
Upward Bound is a new and exciting college readiness opportunity for high school students in Caroline County interested in higher education. The goal of Chesapeake College’s Upward Bound program is to increase the rate of participants’ completion of high school and graduation from a college or university.
Students and parents must complete an application process, and be willing to commit to the time and effort required to complete a rigorous program for the student to achieve high school success and matriculate to a college or university. Click on the application link below, fill out the application, print and sign, and return to your school counselor or an Upward Bound staff member. Applications are also available from your high school counselor. Call 410-304-2180 or email upwardbound@chesapeake.edu for more information, or to set up an appointment to receive help with completing the application.
Promoting a healthy and safe environment for ALL students and staff:
CCPS is committed to providing a safe, respectful, nurturing educational environment where the worth and dignity of individuals are valued and their safety and rights are protected. Behaviors that compromise this environment, interfere with school operations, or are otherwise contrary to the basic mission of our public schools will not be tolerated. Bullying, hazing, harassment, or other discrimination affecting a student or a staff member should be reported by a victim, parent/guardian, witness, staff member, or other person having knowledge. Staff members with knowledge of such conduct are required to promptly report it to the building principal.
Caroline County Public Schools prohibits discrimination in its educational programs, and in employment, on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, or disability.
