Skyview Upper Elementary School
A message from Mrs. Gorla
March 20, 2020
Dear Skyview Families,
Greetings to our Skyview students and families. I know that this message is coming to you all at a time of great uncertainty and challenge. The Skyview teachers, support staff and administrators have been thinking of the members of our learning community - we all care deeply about your health and well-being and miss seeing our students every day.
The district is working to keep families updated on a regular basis. Last evening, Dr. Zerbe sent a link to a video message - be sure to check it out as it provides a lot of information on what has been happening as well as plans for the future - click here to access this message.
As a mom, I know that this school closure has presented some unique challenges -trying to create a reasonable schedule for everyone that encourages them to engage in learning, navigating sibling dynamics and figuring out the best way to explain and enforce social distancing to children, to name a few. This time has also offered the opportunity to slow down the pace of our family. I hope that all of you are taking care of each other and taking time each day to be grateful for the good in your lives.
“Courage. Kindness. Friendship. Character. These are the qualities that define us as human beings, and propel us, on occasion to greatness.” (R.J Palacio)
Be kind, stay safe and be well -
Mrs. Gorla and the staff of Skyview

Thoughts from the Skyview Staff

I miss everybody!
I hope you are all well. During this trying time practice something you love to do, find a way to make someone smile, and know that I am thinking of all of you. Stay well, Mrs. Maier
I miss you guys. As we always talk about in science class, inquiry and constant learning is necessary. We see this in action right now in the real world where the scientists and everyone are being flexible, working hard, and looking toward inquiry, creativity, and what is best for everyone involved. As we continue to see this evolve before our eyes, please do three things for me: 1) Be patient, helpful, and caring. None of us(no human alive now) has ever gone through something like this. We will be fine, but we need your help. 2) Watch what is going on and look for the positives. There are so many good things happening right now. While much of what we hear is focused on the bad, look for the good. There is plenty of it. 3) Know that we want to be there with you, want you to keep learning, but more importantly want you to be safe. Until we see each other again, read, try to learn something new each day, and focus on your character!
We miss you! Please remember to be kind to your family and take care of each other. Read a good book!
Try to relax. Deep breathing. Life will get back to normalcy soon!

From Mrs. Rutter - I'm sure your keyboarding skills are being put to good use these days. Whatever activity you do online, remember to ALWAYS use home key positions! Your keyboarding skills will improve every time you do! Also remember, you can keep practicing at www.typing.com.
It's Spring! Look for signs of Spring and record with taking a photo or drawing what you see! what you see with your phone or by doing a sketch. The green of new growth and yellow of Daffodils and forsythia are everywhere. them with your phone if you can. Or, try drawing or painting those first flowers like a daffodil or forsythia
