TGIF From Mr. Rivers
Information:
Nothing in life is absolute...well at least according to some of us. I am hearing the question that if I don't sub will I be insubordinate? I don't know but a proper conversation will be held. I am "banking" on our professionalism and sound judgment to rule the day. If any questions please, please come and have a talk with me as I'm unsure how my message is currently being communicated! Fight for your rights but I'm only asking that you fully understand your rights and possible limitations. At this point, my focus is instruction and I'll let the personnel piece play to it's logical conclusion.
I think (suggestion provided by a staff member) that we create a professional development committee to plan and calendar p.d. I will take the hit in that I signed off on professional development earlier in the year without realizing the amount of staff members that would be gone over a short period of time. This puts a strain on coverage. Therefore, any of the issues surrounding the building can really be moot with adequate planning, a positive culture and climate, etc. I will do better as we all will.
Instruction:
-Next, week we will be using P.D. 360 for walk-through data. If you have not done so please log in and take a look around for familiarity.
-Mr. Miller is creating folders on the shared drive to be used for submission of lesson plans. Stay Tuned.
-We will move away from lesson plans and posted objectives as this should be expected and focus on student engagement. What is student engagement? How does it look? My mentor and friend Dr. Netzer would constantly remind us that "we cannot let students opt out of learning". I concur, kids sleeping, listening to music inappropriately, and off task are tell-tale signs of opting out. If students are struggling behaviorally or academically this may be a good time to start the RTI process and/or tutoring.
Lastly, I personally thank the many staff members stepping in to cover classes. It hasn't been easy. Mr.Wampler in particular made a little easier for all of us. In the Marines we were taught never leave another Marine behind. Mr. Wampler exemplified this type of doctrine, Thank You.
Have a safe and relaxing weekend.

If you have any students who have fallen below that 90% attendance mark, please make sure you call parents and note the interaction in the PLP on Infinite Campus. Starting October 1st, students below a certain percentage will undergo a strict monitoring process. Having our parents aware of this will assist in this process. Thank you to those Advisement teachers who have started plans and have been communicating that to staff via email. Students will be monitored for 10 days and those not making progress will be referred to the at-risk committee for Tier Two interventions.
