IMPORTANT TRYOUT DATES PLEASE SAVE
As we are flying past the midway point of our fall season we have the next round of sports getting geared up for tryouts. There is a lot of information in this email so please read through it carefully. Please email the coaches assigned to each tryout for details related to the tryouts.
Another note as the Athletic Director I want to make as tryouts for the next sport are happening during fall season sports still going on. The current fall season teams take priority over tryouts. If a student has a conflict they need to let the coach of the next sport know that they wish to tryout but are still in their fall season. If a player misses an important game or practice for a tryout without communication to both fall season coach and future coach there will be the possibility of that player being ineligible.

Fundraising for Team Connor
Each year, we partner with TeamConnor to raise money to support children in our area suffering with cancer. All of the money raised goes directly to TeamConnor; none of it is for LPS. Giving is all done online so you don't have to send any money to school.
The giving window will be Thursday September 21st - Monday October 1st, see below how to donate to Team Connor:
Good afternoon Leadership Prep staff and teachers,
We are thrilled to welcome back your amazing school, Leadership Prep for the 2023 campaign for Coins for Kids with Cancer program to benefit TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation. We are so honored to have such a deep relationship with such a wonderful school, students, staff, and families who have generously participated with this important program to fund pediatric cancer research. September is an important month for us as it is childhood cancer awareness month and so it is timely that your amazing school is participating in this awesome fundraising event.
The fundraising goal for your grade is $500 - $1,000. This is a goal and if you all surpass it, that is AMAZING! Your team name is Help Us Make a Big Change 2023. All giving is online this year on one platform. We ensure this seamless, simple, turnkey, donor friendly approach for the staff, teachers, students and families of Leadership Prep.
Donation for the 2023 campaign is NOW OPEN! Please click this LINK to make your online donation today for childhood cancer. In the IN HONOR box please list LPS and the grade level. If you have multiple students please list LPS and the grade levels. For example, LPS grade 7 and grade 3 or LPS - 11th and 2nd.
This is a wonderful opportunity for our staff, teachers, students and families to give in a BIG way for childhood cancer. September is childhood cancer and we are honored to play a meaningful role in the impact that TeamConnor has within this space in our community with our local children's hospitals, Children's and Cook Children's.
We look forward to a successful campaign as we fund pediatric cancer research. To date, the TeamConnor Childhood Cancer Foundation has funded almost $6M for pediatric cancer research. We know that through research a cure will come and it is our hope that no child or family has to go through the childhood cancer journey.
Please let us know if you have any questions and or need any additional information. We are here for you! Help us beat childhood cancer!

Helper Helper Q&A
Helper Helper Q&A
Below are some recent questions that have come in about recording and validation of community service hours.
Q: I saw that there is a September 30th deadline for summer community service hours. What does this mean?
A: Community service is not required of LPS students. However, if your student provided community service during the summer (between 6/1/23 and 8/13/23) then they may enter that into Helper Helper to use those hours to count towards their required amount for the year! This deadline has now been extended to October 6th.
Q: The Parent-Student Handbook guidelines for Helper Helper show that for approval of hours the coordinator listed for my student's community service needs to be associated with the organization. How does my student show that in the commitment?
A: Ideally, when a student volunteers for an organization, their coordinator should provide an email address that contains the organization's domain, rather than providing an email coming from a non-organizational domain (such as one with a hotmail, yahoo, aol, gmail, etc. domain) which is not valid on its own for verification. Using an appropriate email for the coordinator greatly streamlines accurate validation of community service. However, if the student has another way to ensure proof that the coordinator listed is associated with the organization, then they may add a link for that in the "message to coordinator" field or send it directly to helperhelper@lpsfrisco.net. Please be aware that delays of verification may occur with the latter method.
Q: Is it a good idea to take a photo of my student at the community service event?
A: Yes, it is an excellent idea to make it a habit to take a picture. Some opportunities may require a picture as proof, such as with our LPS clothing drive that your student will find in their Helper Helper platform under "Ongoing Opportunities."
Do you have a question about using Helper Helper or about this year's guidelines? If so, please email them to helperhelper@lpsfrisco.net
