Au Gres-Sims Families and Community,
I am happy to announce that our middle school will once again be taking part in this 3-day, 2-night trip of learning, this time with some exciting tweaks and changes to make it even more impactful for our students. This trip will take place Wednesday, September 14 through Friday, September 16 and during that time our middle school volleyball and football teams will not have practice or games. This trip is designed to build our House teams up, strengthen relationships, and to create a unique common point of reference for the learning that will take place throughout the school year.
After our first trip to Hartley the feedback was very positive and we have taken the feedback from that positive trip to create a schedule with new activities that we think is going to make our next trip even better. The middle grades are challenging in many ways, but this experience is a great opportunity for our students to be a part of something special, something just for them.
In the last few weeks of the school year we will be providing more information about this extended field trip, but please mark your calendars now for the AGS Middle School Hartley Outdoor Education Center Trip September 14-16, 2022.

K-12 Principal's Update
In these stressful times, a little emotional support is always helpful! The “Stay Well” program provides insights for parents, guardians, and caregivers on how to: recognize signs of distress in teens, provide positive support, how to talk to your teen about mental health, and how to lead by example by managing your own wellness. This webinar will run from 6:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 24, and you can register by going to https://bit.ly/3l3E07c. To support our students, there is a webinar on Wednesday, May 25, from 6:00-7:00 pm. The areas of focus include: how to recognize when someone needs help, what a panic attack looks and feels like, how anxiety can change people’s behavior, the best ways to offer support, the warning signs of suicide, and tips for keeping yourself emotionally healthy. I have a lot of information to share with you this week. First, I am attaching the Summer Enrichment flyers that were sent out via Thrillshare this week. Like last summer, we have a program for current 6th-8th grade students and a program for current Kindergarten-5th grade students. (Note: This program is open to all students who are not already part of the Title I Summer Program with Mrs. Gordon. If you were invited to Mrs. Gordon’s program, you should have received your invitation last week.) These 6-week-long virtual programs will focus on reading and math skills that have been identified as areas of focus based on our Spring NWEA results. There is an online platform that the students will be working in, as well as weekly sessions with a staff member for small group or individual help. The program will run from June 27-August 5. The High School Credit Recovery Program letters will be going out at the end of the school year. As a reminder, this will allow students who have failed a semester in a class to get back on track. Like last summer, we will refund the $50 course fee if your student successfully passes the course and earns back their credit. The program also runs for 6 weeks - June 27-August 5, and now that we are using Edmentum teachers for all courses, there is no in-person attendance requirement. If you know your child is behind in high school credits, be sure to watch for notifications from us in June.
As far as testing is concerned, we have it mostly complete, however, we will have a few last-minute tests to complete, and some retakes for students who fell under the district retake policy of a drop in score of more than 10 points from their last testing session. These will be completed early in the week and I hope to have testing wrapped up by mid-week.

Good News! We received confirmation this week that our waiver for 3 days was accepted by the state. We are confirmed for only 1 make-up day, meaning our last day of school is Friday, June 10th for students.
