PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Pleasant Run Elementary Families:
Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
This year’s theme - Hispanic Americans: A History of Serving Our Nation - invites us to reflect on Hispanic Americans' service and contributions to the history of our Nation.
I encourage everyone to find ways to incorporate opportunities for our Hispanic students to share their heritage.
Here are a couple resources:
This past week was Bullying Prevention Week. Be sure to ask your students what they are learning about, how they can help prevent bullying and what to do if they, or someone they know is being bullied. Our school counselor, Ms. Gilbert lead our students through lessons throughout the week.
Several students finished taking their NWEA assessments this week. NWEA is an assessment that provides our teachers, students and families with a snapshot of a student’s academic progress. Both IN-PERSON and VIRTUAL students participated in NWEA. Student results will be shared with families during Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 22, 2020.
The 2020 Census is open until September 30th. The results of the Census help support our communities with financial resources for safety, education, roads, and other public services. The Census can be completed online at my2020census.gov.
We have been asked to help out the Indianapolis Public Library and their strategic planning process. This survey is open for everyone – not just people who use the library! There’s a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card as an incentive! The survey is due on Sept. 12 and can be found at bit.ly/indypl2020survey
Stay Strong, Stay Awesome, Stay Healthy!

VIRTUAL LEARNING
The window for K-8 families to request a change from IN-PERSON to VIRTUAL or VIRTUAL to IN-PERSON for the 2nd quarter is now open and will remain open until Monday, September 21st at 3PM. The schedule change will officially take place after fall intersession break on Monday, October 19th. To request a change, parents must complete the change request form. This can be found in your school’s newsletter or on your school’s website. Requests will not be accepted after 3 PM on Monday, September 21st.
Starting Monday, September 21st full time VIRTUAL K-12 students and ALTERNATING DAY 6-12 students will be required to mark their own attendance in Canvas on days they are not in their school building. Staying active and engaged in each Canvas course is critical for learning and success both short term and long term. Schools and teachers will communicate additional information including sharing tutorials that detail the simple process students will take to mark themselves present for each class period.
