Lottery is Open Now!
- The 2023-2024 lottery for Charter Schools is still open but closes February 10, 2023! If your child has any siblings that are not currently enrolled into Chesapeake Math & IT North, but you wish to enroll them, now is the time to enter for a seat for the upcoming school year. Please be mindful that a sibling is a brother or sister by blood, marriage, or adoption living in the same household (friends, cousins or two separate families living under the same roof do not qualify as siblings.) If your potential student does not have a student ID number please reach out to your boundary school to obtain one.

Hello Parents/Guardians!
As we are now into cold/flu season and also still dealing with COVID-19, this note serves as a gentle reminder regarding a few things related to student health.
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL
1. Sick children need to be kept home from school; to include excessive coughing, sore throat, runny nose/congestion, vomiting, and/or high body temperatures (fever). Resting at home will help them get better more quickly and will prevent them from exposing other children or the staff to their illness.

Attendance
Please note, we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann (sally.warf@pgcps.org), Dr. Fryson (tfryson@cmitelementary.org) and Mrs. Virgil (evirgil@cmitelementary.org). Tutoring start 1/30/2023
Hello parents, Our after school tutoring program begins Jan 30, 2023. Please plan to have your scholar stay after school on Monday and Tuesday if they have been selected to attend Reading it will be held on Monday and Tuesday. If they have been selected to attend Math they will attend on Thursday and Friday. If they have both they will be expected to attend all four days. Please refer to your invitation for the days your child was invited to attend.

Hello Kindergarten Families,
We are looking forward to seeing all of our scholar’s Stem Fair projects, which are due on January 27, 2023. Please keep an eye out for a link for you to upload and submit your scholar’s Stem fair project from your scholar’s teacher.
Please check the weather daily, so your scholar is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Please make sure that you are reading any messages via dojo, class story, or emails pertaining to your scholar’s class.
Asynchronous Day will be on Wednesday, January 25, 2023. Your scholar will go home with a packet of Math and ELA worksheets on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 to be completed for their virtual ½ day of school (at home). There will also be an attendance form in a Google document to capture your scholar's attendance. Please only complete one time, and use your scholar's name. It will be sent from your scholar's teacher via email or Class Dojo.
*Homework is posted by the end of the day on Fridays, for the upcoming week. Please make sure that your scholar is completing their homework assignments. They are graded on completion weekly. If your scholar is in enrichment, please provide your scholar with a homework journal daily, so they can work on the assignments during enrichment.
We are looking for chaperons for an upcoming field-trip that we are planning for the kindergarten team. If you are interested, please make sure that you go through all the required steps to be fully cleared to volunteer. The date will be announced when we have confirmation.
We are looking forward to celebrating the 100th Day of School. We are asking that you create a 100th Day of school T-shirt for your scholar to wear.
We have completed our MAP Assessments this week, and our Kindergartners are preparing for Dibels, and DRA Assessments.. Please make sure that your scholar’s are well rested and eat a balanced breakfast so they can have a clear mind and be ready for the upcoming assessments.

Tutoring will begin January 30, 2023 (you will be notified if your scholar has been selected for tutoring).
If you signed your scholar up for clubs, their afternoon dismissal is for them to be in holding with the enrichment scholars. Please remember the days that your scholar is in a club, if they are usually a car or van rider, they will not be at their regular scheduled dismissal area. If for some reason, they are not to go to their club that day, please notify your scholar’s teacher ahead of time, so they can be at the correct dismissal location.
ELA: We are also working in our new ELA workbook, identifying and matching common sounds that letters represent. In Phonics: we are working on -th word sort, and words that have the ending 'th vs. those that do not have "th. We will review our sight words: said, was, and where, using them in a sentence and writing them correctly on lined paper.
Math: We will start in our new math workbook, introducing double digit numbers. We will practice writing the numbers 11-20, represent numbers with objects, identify numbers in a group, and Identify the unique symbol that goes with each number word.We will continue to use math manipulatives to assist with solving mathematical problems.
Science: We will have a science assessment on what we learned about different types of weather and weather patterns, and how weather can change from day to day. We will also talk about our four seasons, and how lucky we are to experience the four different seasons.
Social Studies: We are reviewing why it is important to have a job. What types of jobs are there in the community? We will have a Social Studies test this week on jobs.
Health: We are going to talk about the importance of taking care of our teeth and visiting the dentist. Why are our teeth important to us? How should we take care of our teeth?
Friendly reminder: Class Dojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities, events, and messages. Please make sure that you are connected to your scholar’s Class Dojo. Teacher emails and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well.

Your scholar should have a full set of extra change of clothes (uniform) that can be kept in their cubbies.

We had a great week in second grade!
This week we completed MAP Math and Reading assessments to show how much we've grown since the beginning of the school year! Please be on the lookout for growth reports from your scholar's teacher.
Next week in reading, we will begin unit 3. This unit is titled "Our Traditions." Throughout the week we will use theme to determine key ideas in fables. The spelling pattern will be long i: i, ie, i_e, igh, and y. In math we will be working on Topic 7. This topic covers problem solving using addition and subtraction.
Reminders:
Next Wednesday will be an asynchronous day. This means students will complete work from home that day (1/25).
STEM Fair Projects are due next Friday (1/27).

Terrific Third Graders
In Reading this week, students will begin Unit 3 Heroes. Students will begin reading the historical fiction Below Deck: A Titanic Story. Students will work on prefixes pre-, dis-, in-, im-, and non-. In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 3: Communities Build a Nation and Lesson 1: America's First People.
In math this week, students are finishing up Topic 8, Using Strategies and Properties to Add and Subtract. Expect an extra credit review assignment for our test at the end of the week. For science we are starting our next topic on climate. STEM fair projects are also due on Friday (1/27), so this is our last week to work on those before presenting to the class!

We strongly encourage parents to check SchoolMax weekly to stay abreast of your scholar's progress in all academic areas. Students can redo eligible assignments within a week of being posted. Weekly check-ins with your scholar about his/her grades is a great way to setting goals and reflecting on progress.

Science Benchmark Test on Thursday, January 26th
STEM Projects:
We are now wrapping up the STEM Project which is due January 27th. Please make sure you use the STEM link and STEM layout for project submission. We also have Grubs with Grandparents on January 27th.
Fifth grade directions for Grubs with Grandparents:
Grandparents will enjoy their scholar in the classroom from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15a.m. They will be held by their specials teacher for collaboration and engagement. At 9:15 a.m., students and their grandparents will make their way to the cafeteria to have food. This group must exit the cafeteria at 9:45 a.m. Enjoy!
Asynchronous Learning:
We also have asynchronous learning on Wednesday, January 25th which will be a half-day of school. Students will be given work to complete at home and they must complete the attendance Google Form that will be posted in Google Classroom. Please ensure attendance is completed for this day. Thank you so much for your collaboration!
RELA:
This week in RELA, we finished Unit 2 Week 5. Next week, we will review Unit 2, and take the Unit 2 Assessment.
MATH:
This week in Math students will:
1) Represent a problem situation with a mathematic model
2) Solve division problems using partial quotients
SCIENCE:
In Science, students are continuing the lesson topic "Patterns in Space." We will close out this topic with a topic test on Friday, January 27th.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week, students will review Chapter 6 and take the assessment. We will also begin Chapter 7 Lessons 1-5. They will learn the First Presidents and their functions in the U.S.

Greetings,
Tigers have presentations this week and next. Classes will primarily consist of independent work to finish their projects and critiques. Projects include portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, abstract, and other activities that develop their understanding of depth of field and value. We will continue to stress craftsmanship as a priority.
Music
Hey Tiger families! Students in grades 3-5 are deep in their digital audio workspace unit, and are using this week to REMIX popular songs! We are making a choice between a Beyonce song, a Steve Lacy Song, and a Glass Animals song and adding beats and instruments according to the BPM and KEY of the song! Rock on Tigers!
Grades 1-2 finished up their instrument families unit, and are creating their own imaginary instruments. Grade 1 is the lucky group that will get to execute their designs using recycled materials in two weeks!
Technology

In this interactive learning experience, students improve their knowledge of vocabulary terms and definitions related to what it means to be online.
2-5 practiced:

During this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice with online communication. They are introduced to email addresses and experience how to write and send email messages.

Good week parents, this week is our dance week! Students in grades 2-5 will be learning the “Soulja boy dance” while students in K-1 will be learning the chacha slide!
