Rolling Hills Primary School
January 2024
Welcome to January 2024!
A Message from Dr. Anderson
Dear Rolling Hills Parents and Guardians:
As we begin a new month--and a new year--I would like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2024! I would like to take the opportunity to thank Pappa's Garden on Route 94 in Vernon, for the lovely wreaths and greenery that they donated to beautify Rolling Hills Primary School prior to the winter break. We are deeply grateful for your generosity.
December was a busy one, with the Holiday Shop, a visit from author Daryl K. Cobb, entertainment by the VTHS Meistersingers and Brass Band, and many, many, classroom celebrations! Thank you for encouraging your child to participate in the Holiday Spirit Week themes and completing their Mind Traveler's Library Reading Incentive reading logs. We recently received a lovely thank you letter from Rev. Christopher Barkhausen, who thanked us for our recent donations to the St. Francis de Sales Parish Food Pantry. Thank you for your continued generosity for those in need throughout the Vernon community.
Despite all of the holiday preparations, there were numerous learning opportunities provided by our wonderful Rolling Hills Primary School staff members each and every day! Thank you, one and all, for your continued support and cooperation. The first trimester Standards-Based Report Cards were distributed last month. Please take some time to review your child's progress report and contact their child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you!
On a sad note, we lost a special member of the Rolling Hills Primary School family on Christmas Day. Mrs. Joanne Bardowell was one of our beloved aides and we ask you to keep her family in your thoughts during this difficult time. She truly enjoyed working at Rolling Hills with our staff and students and will be sorely missed. At the current time, plans for a memorial service are still being finalized.
We would greatly appreciate your assistance with the following:
- Please be sure that your contact information--especially all of the phone numbers listed in Genesis to be used in an emergency--are kept up-to-date and accurate.
- If you are driving your child to school, please plan to arrive at Rolling Hills between 9:00 and 9:10 AM. Students arriving after 9:15 AM will be marked "tardy". When you arrive at the school, please follow the directives of the staff members who are outside assisting with this process. There is no need to park your car for morning drop-off, just drive up to the front door and your child may depart from your vehicle. If you could have your child ready to exit from the passenger side, that would provide a safer procedure for all students.
- If you are picking up your child from school, please visit Genesis and then follow the procedure below before noon on the day of the pick up. If you arrive to pick up your child without informing the school office, it delays dismissal for the entire school. If your child is picked up each day, there is no need to follow this procedure daily, as they will be listed on the Daily Pickup List. Thank you very much for your help!
- When you pick up your child, you will need to park and walk to the front door of the school, where there will be a spreadsheet to sign out your child. Students will be called for pick-up dismissal at approximately 3:30 PM. We would sincerely ask your patience and understanding in waiting until that time for your child to be dismissed from if you are picking them up from school. Please avoid all early pick-ups unless there is an emergency, as it is very disruptive to the dismissal process.
- Thank you for your assistance. Your cooperation will ensure that everyone receives quality instruction--from bell to bell!
- We will continue to focus on the importance of regular attendance as we move into the second trimester of the 2023-2024 school year. Please take some time to review the flyer listed below and encourage your child to be in school each and every day--unless they are ill. Thank you!
- A "LOST AND FOUND" table is located outside the nurse's office. If your child is missing any items, please have them stop by the table sometime during the day to retrieve their lost belongings.
Although I strongly encourage you to reach out directly to your child's teacher(s) first regarding any issues pertaining to instruction or classroom routines, please be assured that I remain committed to every students' educational experience and encourage you to reach out to me if I may be of assistance throughout the school year.
Thank you for your dedication to your child's education and your anticipated cooperation.
With sincere appreciation,
Pauline F. Anderson, Principal

Second Grade Travel Agents at Leichtweisz's Travel Agency!
These second graders worked hard over the last few weeks using the writing process in order to create a travel brochure.
First, everyone picked a state or country they were interested in learning about. Then, the students researched their destination using books or Epic online library. They created a rough draft, edited, revised, shared with peers and created a final draft!
Stop by if you are looking to travel anywhere in the near future our second grade travel agents can offer you information on many destinations! 😉

The students in Mrs. Reinhardt's class went on a Math Adventure using INNOVAMAT to explore properties of logical blocks. They played different games in small groups that required the students to analyze and classify the logical blocks according to size, color, and shape. The students had a blast!
Creating Gingerbread Houses is Fun...and Delicious!
Mrs. Reinhardt's class celebrated the holidays by making gingerbread houses. They could not have done it without the help of all the wonderful parents and guardians who sent in items and came in to help out. They even had a former student come in to see her brother and help out with the decorating! The students had the best time building and then decorating their very own gingerbread houses.
Grinch Day was Filled with Learning Opportunities!
Mrs. Reinhardt's class finished out 2023 with a fun-filled Grinch Day. The day included Grinch-themed reading lessons, writing projects, and math centers. They read the How the Grinch Stole Christmas and talked about character traits. They then used their inferencing skills to write ways they would make the Grinch grin and they wrote about things that bring them joy. The Grinchy math centers had the students adding, subtracting, problem solving, following directions, and playing Guess the Number. They even ended our day watching the original How the Grinch Stole Christmas cartoon while enjoying some Grinch treats! YUMMY!
