Aug 23 - 26 | KG Jump Start

"In music the past month we have had a World Culture lesson, and a Citizenship lesson. Students studied the music of Mexico, learned some traditional songs in the Spanish language, and explored the special music of Mexico - Mariachi. We are ending the month with a Memorial Day sing-long, learning the meaning of Memorial Day and why we celebrate it. They will sing traditional Patriotic songs and learn the history behind them. I am encouraging students to invite family, friends, learning community, or education helpers! The students just finished up their final units on Tempo(K/1st), Dynamics (2/3rd) and the Romantic Period (4/5th). Coming up next is a quick Year End Review of all the music concepts studied and practiced over the school - 11 units of study in all for each grade level! They will review the Keywords from each unit and have one activity for each - a song, a game, or an interactive activity. We will end the school year by singing some fun camp songs.

Over the last month PE has been exploring sports that are contested during the Olympic Games including Track & Field, Gymnastics, and Soccer! Students have had the opportunity to learn about and participate in running, jumping, and throwing challenges; performing their own gymnastics routine; and playing in a 1 versus 1 Gold Medal Match or Penalty Kick Shootout. Even in a year where we have not had PE classes in person, students have continued to find creative ways to stay active, have fun, and continue to take ownership of their own physical activity. Coming up next week there will only be one lesson pushed out on Wednesday. In this lesson, students will have the chance to invent and design their own game with some help from Mr. Quinn and the Elementary PE Team.
