MR. GUGLIA NAMED PRINCIPAL OF THE GIBBONS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
It's impossible to measure the contribution Mr.Guglia has made to our school community over the years, and I don't know how the faculty basketball team will compete with the eighth-graders without him!
I'd like to share just one example of how Mr. Guglia has made OMS a better place over the years. Mr. Guglia has a profound respect for our veterans, military service members and military families. Mr. Guglia has worked very hard with Head Social Studies teacher Ms. Valair, the wider community, and local veterans organizations to establish a number of programs and events to honor those who serve and have served in the military. As a result of his hard work and vision, our Veterans Day and Memorial Day assemblies have become truly special traditions.
When designing the Memorial Day assembly, Mr. Guglia wanted to do more than just talk to students about the value of honoring the fallen heroes who have served for our freedom. He reached out to Mr. Paul Monti. Mr. Monti taught for many years at Stoughton High School. In fact, Mr. Guglia was in Mr. Monti's class when he was at SHS. Mr. Monti also had a son named Jared Monti. Sergeant First Class Monti, 10th Mountain Division in Afghanistan, received the United States Military's highest decoration for valor, the Medal of Honor for his action in the war in Afghanistan. SFC Monti was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor by President Obama in 2009. Mr. Guglia invited Mr. Paul Monti to OMS to tell his son's story to our school community, and he has visited each year to tell this powerful story to eighth graders each year. Mr. Guglia and Ms. Valair also started a schoolwide Flags for Veterans fundraiser that coincides with the Memorial Day assembly. The money raised helps to place flags at the gravesites of fallen veterans on Memorial Day. If you click on the link below, you will see the short video that Mr. Guglia uses to introduce the Monti's story here at school.
We say farewell and thank you to our beloved assistant principal, good friend, and overall great guy...Mr. Guglia.
Good luck at the Gibbons. We know you will do great things there too.

8th Graders Prepare to Say Farewell to OMS
It’s hard to believe that the end of eighth grade is almost here. The following list is a preview of some important events for eighth graders as they prepare to say farewell to the O’Donnell Middle School.
Career Day – Thursday, June 6th (Early Release Day)
All eighth graders will attend a series of career presentations during the school day. More than twenty guest speakers will discuss their careers fields with our students.
Transition Day – Tuesday, June 18th
Eighth graders attending or still considering Stoughton High School will visit SHS. This visit will include a club/activity fair. Stoughton High School students, teachers, counselors, and administrators will provide the Class of 2023 with information on academics, athletics, and student life at the high school.
Morning Class Day Activities at OMS – Wednesday, June 19TH
All eighth graders will receive a free breakfast and class gift when they get to OMS, courtesy of the OMS Administration and the PTSO. Students will view photos from their time at OMS. Those students who have purchased a yearbook will be able to get signatures during the Class Day breakfast. At the conclusion of breakfast, all eligible students* will head up to SHS for the Class Day Ceremony.
The Class Day Ceremony at the Stoughton High School Auditorium* – Wednesday, June 19TH
Eighth graders who have successfully completed the academic program at OMS will attend the Class Day Ceremony. Seating is limited, so each student will receive two (2) tickets along with a Class Day invitation and itinerary. Only those with tickets will be allowed into the event. Students will walk to the Stoughton High School auditorium from OMS for the ceremony. A brief reception will follow in the SHS Cafeteria. Students will be dismissed at the conclusion of the reception from Stoughton High School.
The Grade Eight Dance – Wednesday Evening, June 19TH
All eighth graders are invited to attend the Grade Eight Dance from 7-9pm in the OMS Cafetorium.
*The Class Day Ceremony celebrates the successful academic completion of the O’Donnell Middle School. Students who have not met the criteria for promotion do not participate in the Class Day Ceremony; this includes students who will repeat eighth grade as well as those who will need to complete Summer School in order to be promoted to ninth grade. Eighth grade students with an outstanding financial obligation may not be allowed to participate in the Class Day Ceremony. (Student and Parent Handbook)

A Message from School Nurse Mrs. McDonnell
6th Grade Parents/Guardians please remember to submit your student's annual doctor checkup/physical to the school nurse as soon as they have it done. It is a state law that all student's entering 7th grade must have a physical on file with the nurse.
It is good practice for all parents/guardians to submit their student's annual physicals to the school nurse so their student can do sports and or go camp or on trips.
Also if your student has medicine with the school nurse she will be mailing home a notice the 2nd week in June about picking it up. No medicine can be stored over the summer.
From the OMS Student and Parent Handbook: Promotion and Retention Policy (pp. 16-17)
In order to be promoted to the next grade:
1. A student cannot fail more than one of the following classes for the year – Math, Science, Social Studies, English.
2. A student may attend summer school, at the students’ cost of $225, if he/she has failed two subjects for the year.
3. A student failing 3 or more subjects for the year may only attend summer school with the permission of the principal. All grades, behavior and other factors will be taken into consideration.
