CSD Superintendent Update
October 3, 2022, Cambrian School District
Dear Cambrian Families,
Happy October! I hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather and are happily engaged in the many activities at our Cambrian schools. Please take a moment to view my video, above, to learn about important upcoming events in our schools.
I encourage you to connect with your school’s home and school club, as this is an excellent place to get plugged in and truly make a difference in our Cambrian community.
Upcoming School Board Meeting
This coming Thursday, Oct. 6th at 7 p.m. is our next School Board meeting. We will be recognizing our Students of the Month from each school, as well as Good Apple volunteers who have made a positive contribution to our district.
The meeting is open to the public and we’d love to see you there! Meetings are held in person at the Professional Development Center located at 4115 Jacksol Drive, San Jose 95124 in Building 7, and can be viewed online as well. Agenda and login information will be available later this week and will be sent out via email.
Cambrian Education Foundation (CEF)
Did you know that the Cambrian School District has a foundation? Their vision is to provide supplemental financial support to our district schools for the purpose of funding student enrichment programs for all students, in collaboration with our Home and School Clubs. Bravo to our Principals!
Bravo to all of our amazing Cambrian principals – I am so grateful for their leadership, commitment and hard work. Also, I wanted to share some great news. Our own Sartorette Principal Debbie Stein just had a comprehensive report titled “How a First-time Principal Led Systemic Change Despite a Pandemic: A Guide for New Administrators” published in the online journal of the Association of California School Administrators. We are so proud of her accomplishment and celebrate her success! This is one example of the many great things happening in our district.
Have a great week – and thanks again for being such an active and vital part of our Cambrian community!

- This year we are pleased to share that we have access to three films created to support our students’ social emotional well being and the challenges they face.
- The Upstanders --The Upstanders teaches about the power of connection and resilience to end bullying behavior, both online and in person.
- LIKE --LIKE explores the addictiveness of social media and the role and impact of technology in our lives.
- Angst -- Angst raises awareness and opens up the conversation about anxiety, helping people understand and manage their symptoms and learn when and how to ask for help.
We will be providing either live or virtual access to each of these films during the school year. Stay tuned for more information regarding viewing The Upstanders this October!

Call 988
The County of Santa Clara Behavioral Health Services Department (BHSD) transitioned to the new national three-digit suicide prevention lifeline number, 988. If a person, or a loved one, is experiencing the following, they should call 988 if they:
Are in mental health or substance use crisis.
Having mental health distress, including thoughts of suicide.
They just need to talk.
The Zones of Regulation
Our elementary schools are supporting students with self-regulation and emotional control utilizing the Zones of Regulation curriculum. Our amazing teachers are implementing lessons to support students with sensory integration and regulation, emotional self-understanding, emotional self-regulation, executive functioning, social thinking, and development of self-awareness.
The Zones of Regulation uses four colors to help students visually and verbally self-identify how they are functioning in the moment given their emotions and states of alertness. Lessons are designed to help students understand their different internal emotions, sensory needs, and thinking patterns that result in each student shifting from one Zone to another. Students explore a variety of tools (sensory supports, calming techniques, and thinking strategies) that they can use to regulate what Zone they are in and are taught when, why, and how to use their tools.
World Mental Health Day Oct. 10
World Mental Health Day, honored annually on October 10, was created to raise awareness of mental health issues and mobilize support to improve the mental health of people around the world. Advocating for equitable mental health systems for all will lead the path to positive global outcomes.
Cambrian School District is committed to raising awareness about mental health and equitable access to quality mental health services.
Cambrian School District partnered with Care Solace to support the well-being of students, staff, and their family members.
