Dryden Basketball Alumni Night
The annual Dryden Basketball Alumni night, held on February 12th, was a huge success. "It was our best one ever. It was such a fun night," said Coach John DelCampo. "We got a glimpse of the future, the present and the past."
The evening began with the junior high parents against the junior high boys teams. "That was a great way to start off the evening. We got to see the future of Dryden Basketball," said DelCampo. The junior high team won a close contest, 39-38.
"We had a lot of fun. Everyone got to play and had a great time," said eighth grade player Nick Abromaitis. "I didn't see one person that night without a smile."
The current Dryden varsity and JV teams had jobs throughout the night. They ranged from running contests to concessions to refereeing. "I enjoyed refereeing, but it was more difficult than I thought it would be," said senior guard Merrick Maris.
For the alumni game, there was a draft held between Dave Reynolds (1997) and Marcus Leija (2002) (current girls basketball coaches). "The draft was a lot of fun. It was tough trying to figure out which guys would fit best on the team," said Leija.
"I enjoyed the game this year because we kept it in house with all Dryden players. That made it more special," commented 1963 graduate Paul Grondin.
It was a close game throughout. "These guys still do not want to lose. The intensity was amazing," said DelCampo. Team Leija won, 73-71.
The evening was capped off with a reception after the game at Pine House Kitchen and Bar. "It is a beautiful facility and the food was great. They donated a portion of food and drink tabs to the program. There was also some great story telling going on from years past," said DelCampo.
The evening raised over $2200 for the Dryden Basketball program. "We are very grateful to everyone that played a part in the evening," said DelCampo.
Next year's game is tentatively slated for February 4, 2023. "I'm already looking forward to getting revenge next year," said Dave Reynolds.
