Message from Administration
Congratulations to our Retiring Lisbon Staff Member!
As we finish out an incredible school year, we want to pause and congratulate one of our staff members as they celebrate the end of their careers with HCPSS in retirement! Please join us in recognizing Mrs. Amy Olson!
We are saying farewell to one of our beloved Lisbon Elementary School staff members. Mrs. Amy Olson, our awesome and amazing reading specialist teacher, will be retiring this year. Mrs. Olson has been a teacher for 34 years, and has been at Lisbon the entire time! Mrs. Olson has dedicated her career to the Howard County Public School System and we are extremely grateful. She plans to stay in Maryland for the foreseeable future. In retirement, Mrs. Olson plans to travel with her husband, enjoy her children, and spend as much time as she can at the beach. We wish Mrs. Olson all the happiness as she begins the next chapter of her life. We want to truly thank Mrs. Olson for all she has done for our Lisbon students, staff, and community. We will miss her greatly!

Summer Reading Program and Bookmark Contest
Happy Summer Reading! Today, students in grades K-4 were given a summer reading list of possible books to consider reading, along with a game board for the Summer Reading Game through the Howard County Library. This game is optional, with students reading 10 books/comics/participating in HCPL free programs. Fifth graders can visit the HCPL website at https://hclibrary.org/summer/ to find out about the middle school summer reading game, as it differs from the elementary school game. We are fortunate to be rather close to the Glenwood Library which has been renovated this past year and has lots of new and exciting features and a wonderful staff ready to help you find the perfect book to read or listen to.
This week, students also began to create original bookmarks as part of the HCPL/HCPSS A+ partnership program. Students that finish their bookmark by the last day of school can choose to:
- turn in their bookmark to the Glenwood Library with the information section filled out by a trusted adult;
- bring their completed bookmark to Mrs. Hastings and Mrs. Patrick by the last day of school (with the information section filled out) for our library media staff to turn in for you;
- or keep their bookmark and cut it out for personal use and forego the bookmark contest
If you have any questions please reach out to Mrs. Hastings or Mrs. Patrick in our library media center. Happy reading!
The starting prize for elementary is a book. Students who choose to participate should take their game board to any library branch during June in order to claim this starting prize. Book prizes will be given out while supplies last.
The finishing prize for elementary is a STEM kit or an art kit. These are also given out while supplies last, with July being the earliest prizes can be claimed.
INFORMATION WORTH REPEATING
Lisbon Elementary Car Loop Feedback
Please help us plan for the 23-24 School Year by providing input about our current arrival and dismissal procedures. With an expected increase in the number of car riders for the 23-24 school year, we want to be proactive in enhancing our current procedures to ensure the safest and most efficient process for our community.
Summer Curriculum Resources
The elementary curriculum offices have compiled several activities and strategies for students to enhance their learning during the summer. The resource can be found on the Canvas Parent Pages linked below. Resources can be viewed by grade level and subject. Additional resources and suggestions can also be found on the Parent Pages. These resources include games, strategy instruction tips, field trip suggestions, and much more. We hope you find this information helpful!
From the Health Room
Parents: If your student has medication in the Health room, please come in no later than 12:00 p.m. on June 14th to pick up the medication. All medications not picked up will be discarded. Be on the lookout in your student's backpack for more information and for a new medication form for next school year.
Hoping you all have a wonderfully relaxing, fun and safe summer!

DID YOU MOVE? ARE YOU MOVING?

Whether it be another HCPSS school, a private school, or a school out of the HCPSS district, we are here to help. If you are transferring to another HCPSS school, our registrars will partner to make the transition as smooth as possible.
