All Pro Dad - IN PERSON
Our first IN PERSON All Pro Dad was a huge success. So many students with a significant adult in their lives were in attendance. We filled the gym!!! Thank you for making it a GREAT morning. We will meet again on Friday, April 22nd. All meetings begin at 7:15 a.m. in the gym with donuts, video and a time of conversation with your child(ren). Please join us. The event will end at 7:45 a.m.
What is All Pro Dad? For 30 minutes each month, you'll get to join other dads and kids at school for a fun, memory-making event. All Pro Dad Chapters provide an opportunity for dads (or another significant adult) to spend quality time with their child(ren) that will strengthen their relationship.
SUPERINTENDENT'S COLUMN - Wanted: Your Partnership
Ask any educator in the Midwest and most will tell you the months of January and February are some of the most difficult in a school year. Fewer hours of sunlight, snaps of bitterly cold weather, feeling like we’re stuck inside for days on end. I often wonder how educators who came before us in one room school houses managed to keep going through the long, dark winters! I think it’s safe to say we’re all glad to see the days getting longer and we know warmer weather is on the way.
The appearance of March on the calendar is a very real reminder that two-thirds of the school year is already complete. It also signals the beginning of spring events like concerts and musicals, track meets and ballgames, and yes, required assessments to ensure students are on track with their learning. There is still much to be done before the school year ends in May!
While we have all worked hard to keep students in school these past two years during the pandemic, we continue to work toward feeling even more normalcy, including tending to the strong connections we want our community to have with our neighborhood schools. After a year of asking people to stay away, we have to make sure we’re moving back in the direction of inviting people to come in and resume the activities and practices that are good for students and for adults. Can you remember the last time you volunteered in your child’s classroom? How about the last time you joined your student for lunch? Or, maybe it’s been awhile since you attended parent-teacher conferences in person.
We recognize the challenges the pandemic presented to strong school-home relationships. That’s why we’ll be asking some questions in the next few weeks to gather input on how we can continue to strengthen our partnerships moving forward. “Parents’ voices are critical to the success of our education system. They are our children’s first, and most influential teachers,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recently. We agree, knowing the experience of parents has felt different over the last two years.
We look forward to the opportunity to connect with each of you so we can better serve your child. I hope you will take a few moments to share your thoughts, and engage with us, to strengthen the educational experience for your child and all 24,000 students in the Sioux Falls School District.
Ronald McDonald Pop Tab Contest
Each year the Ronald McDonald House hosts a Pop Tab Contest which ends on April 15th. We have never been in the Top 5, and this year John Harris is currently in 4th place. We would like you to bring in your pop tabs to school to help move us to 1st Place!!! Saving these pop tabs helps support our local families and our local Ronald McDonald chapter.
