Letter from the Principal
Happy Spring!
January and February have been packed with new learning opportunities, and it feels like the spring semester is flying by.
As we get closer to the end of the school year, high schools typically notice a drop in attendance. Consistent attendance is important for academic success, especially since so many of our lessons and activities are hands-on. When students miss their Clifton class, they often miss hands-on skills or an internship experience, which is not something that can be made up easily. Good attendance is also an important job skill. When we speak with business partners, they repeatedly tell us that they are looking for reliable employees.
To support and recognize good attendance, we are offering a Spring Attendance Incentive. Between March 20 and April 28, students will be entered into a raffle for every week they have perfect attendance at Clifton. This means students have multiple chances to enter the raffle. At the beginning of May, we will draw 4 winners for a prize. Better attendance = more chances to win.
Please encourage your students to attend their classes regularly. Clifton staff will continue contacting families when students have multiple unexcused absences in a row so that we can partner for students' success. They've worked hard all year, and we'd hate for them to lose credit for a class during this last grading period. As always, we will continue to share information via this newsletter, our campus website, and our social media accounts (see below).

Hospitality
Our first-year Hospitality students have finished Principles of Hospitality and started Intro to Event & Meeting Planning, learning about everything that goes into hosting a successful event. To get some first-hand experience, students went behind the scenes at the University of Texas, meeting with the event coordinator and exploring hospitality departments and careers at UT. Second-year students continue to learn about different roles in the hospitality industry, including job shadowing at a local hotel. They have also been applying their learning (and perfecting their flip) to help coordinate the return of our Clifton Pancake Breakfast.
