Principal's Message
Great evening fantastic families,
Welcome back! We have just 2 short weeks until our next break and our amazing educators are not wasting a minute of instructional time. We hit the ground running this week with a focus on small groups and targeting areas for growth with our scholars. We also came back to some amazing events, our 6th grade class visited the holocaust museum, our 3rd grade class had their rescheduled performance, our Belles & cheerleaders had a bake sale, and we had a school wide spelling bee. Everyone was excited to be back in the building.
This upcoming week we will have our December staff meeting Tuesday so the only after school activity will be Xplor. We are also looking forward to Coffee with the Principal and a 6th grade choir concert at West Wood Junior High on Wednesday. Thursday we will have the school day picture retakes and the 5th grade program. We will round out our week with another home basketball game vs Forestridge. Please remember Holi-grams are on sell this week until Friday 12/9/22. Serving this community is an absolute honor and we are thankful you chose Richardson ISD & Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet. #GREATnessHappensHere!

Parent Technology Education Event: Internet Safety for Parents, Guardian, and Community Members
Learn ways you can protect your children online no matter how they access the internet.
Technology changes all the time, and kids are constantly finding the newest websites, apps, and gadgets. While most children are not getting into trouble online, it’s up to all of us to teach basic rules of internet safety so they use all of these resources responsibly. The topics we will discuss are not specific to just one device or website.
Presented by: Lana Ahrens, Director of Training & Community Outreach at the Dallas County Children’s Advocacy Center.
Spanish translation available.
Thursday, January 19, 2023 6:00-7:00 pm in the PDC Auditorium. 701 W. Belt Line Road, Richardson 75080.
Health Services Update
Health Services Update
Dallas County Health and Human Services reached out to school district Health Services Directors last week issuing a warning regarding the next several months. DCHHS said, “we are seeing an upturn in flu and flu-like illness in the county. We are anticipating an unfavorable flu season this year and a possibility of a tridemic – Influenza, RSV and COVID.”
DCHHS is once again requiring ISD’s to report flu or flu-like illness, as well as reporting weekly COVID numbers. Throughout the last three years, ISD’s were only required to report COVID data.
RISD is observing a steady increase across the district in absences and students who are ill with flu-like illness. The campus nurses, health services leadership, and administration remain proactive in reminding staff and students of the importance of good and frequent hand washing and keeping all air purifiers turned on in classrooms and common spaces.
If your child is experiencing flu-like symptoms, please keep your child at home and notify your campus nurse.
According to DCHHS, the best protection against the flu virus is the flu vaccine. The flu vaccine is recommended for almost everyone except children younger than six months old. Flu vaccine locations can be found here: https://www.dallascounty.org/departments/dchhs/immunization-hours.php
State of Texas Kits Now Available to Parents
State of Texas Kits Now Available to Parents
Texas law (S.B. 2158) requires school districts to make inkless, in-home fingerprint and DNA identification kits available to parents or guardians of elementary and junior high students, upon request.
Parents may complete a kit to keep at home to provide to law enforcement authorities if assistance is ever needed to locate and return a missing child.
This program is an optional tool for parents to keep at home. Kits should not be returned to any RISD school or employee. Parents or guardians interested in an in-home fingerprint and DNA identification kit should contact their elementary or junior high school’s front office.
Please visit the Texas School Safety Center website for more information.
