Software Changes
Alternatives for Software Not Approved
Additionally, Screencastify now allows teachers to create their own videos and embed questions for students to answer during the viewing. They offers multiple choice questions. Take a look at this informational page on Screencastify, which includes helpful videos. Teachers can also use Screencastify to record another video and add questions as well as verbal instructions. Here is a brief how to video.
Other applications that will no longer be allowed are Flipgrid, Pear Deck and Kahoot. Alternatives to Pear Deck and Kahoot include Nearpod and Lumio (formerly Smart Learning Suite Online). Students can now access Screencastify Submit which will provide video creation for them, taking the place of Flipgrid.
Active Directory and Teacher Laptops
There are many ways to back up your data. You can use a flash drive or an external hard drive to back up and store your files. Another way to back up your stored data is to upload it to your Google Drive. It is very simple and you have unlimited storage in the Google Cloud. Here is a short video on how to move folders into your Google Drive.
New Assessment Creation Tool
Because of the move to this new software, we have eliminated software that has same purpose. The District will no longer support Castle Learning, as our usage has decreased this year. We will also no longer support DnA. We are committed to a smooth transition to Performance Matters and will provide professional learning for teachers and administrators this fall.
