Meet Our New Teachers
Ms. Caryn Rooke- IH Humanities 1 and 2
Dr. Jeff Thielbar- IH Biology
My name is Jeff Thielbar but most students call me “Dr. T.” I am so happy to be joining the Plano East Senior High School staff and teaching International Honors Biology. I have been in education for 32 years as a science teacher and an administrator. I came to Texas eight years ago after teaching high school biology in Wyoming and serving as a high school Principal in both Wyoming and Alaska. I attended the University of Wyoming where I received my Bachelor of Science degree, Master of Science degree, Education Specialist degree, and Doctor of Education. I am a huge believer in lifelong learning. I was fifty when I earned my doctorate in 2010.
I was born in Pueblo Colorado, but my family moved around a lot. I enlisted in the U.S. Marines when I was seventeen and retired from the Army National guard in 2003. I currently serve as a member of the Collin County Marine Corps League. Along with lifelong learning, I also believe in serving my country, community, and family. I guess that is why I have been in education for so long.
I love to spend my free time with my family. Carlan and I have 5 children, 17 grandchildren, and a dog. Family gatherings can be large and very active. My passion is to travel and learn about new places. I have been to all fifty of the United States and several countries. Carlan and I are always looking forward to the next place we can visit and learn about the culture.
Mr. Scott Johnson - IB SL/HL Physics
I have taught every subject of Science save Chemistry and every subject of Mathematics save AP Calculus. I will be teaching Honors Physics and IB Physics SL and HL this year. I have 3 years past experience teaching AP Physics C Mechanics and Electromagnetics.
During my off time I travel for my daughters Club Select Soccer team and for fun. I read and play video games with my sons or I just do whatever I have time for, which isn't much. I was a soccer playing myself for 9 yrs, have spent 40 yrs in and around the sport, and ran Track and Cross Country. I have also coached Rec, Club, and high school soccer and track/cross country for both boys and girls in the past.Mr. Benjy Wood- IB Environmental Societies and Systems
I grew up in an Air Force family in Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas and Texas. I have been a science teacher since 2001, and this is my sixth year teaching at Plano East. I have worked with the College Board as a presenter and exam grader for AP Environmental Science, and am excited about joining the IB family at Plano East. Most of my free time is spent with my wife, three kids (a biochemistry major at the University of Nebraska, a senior at Plano Senior, and a sophomore at Clark), and my dog Molly. Random fact: my three children were born on three different continents! My latest personal pursuit is beginning to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Ms. Giselle Devillier- IB SL Psychology
I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach the inaugural class of Psychology SL here at Plano East. I am a native of Louisiana which is where I developed my passion for teaching students with special needs. My husband’s work brought us to New Jersey, Colorado, and finally to Texas where our family has been settled for the past 24 years. I joined the staff of Plano East in Fall of 2000, and in my time here have helped to lead our special education department, and have also taught English and US History. Five years ago, I had the opportunity to take over the AP Psychology program, and have enjoyed the students and the content immensely. I have worked very hard to grow the course and in 2021, I was honored to be named as the Plano East teacher of the year.
My husband Andre and I have 3 children. Our oldest son is a Plano East graduate and is currently teaching in Iowa, my daughter is currently attending Collin College, and my younger son is a junior here at Plano East. We are proud longtime members of the Plano East Community. When not at school, or at a Plano East sporting event, I enjoy reading, cooking, gardening, and spending time with my family and friends.
