Arkansas Alpha Delta Kappa
November 2019
Dear Sisters,
November has brought us some cooler weather and we have many things to be thankful for. I am thankful to all Alpha Delta Kappa sisters around the state. Founder’ Month keep me on the road and enjoying fellowship with sisters all around Arkansas. I had a fantastic time visiting Little Rock, Fayetteville, West Memphis and Crossett and honoring our founders. We as Alpha Delta Kappa members need to be thankful for this wonderful organization we were asked to join. We are blessed to have sisters to talk to and bond with.
Hopefully you saw some our state members in the November KAPPAN; Rachel Shankles twice, Pam Coyne, Ann Holcomb and Patti Snipes. The photos were taken during the International Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
November is the time that we celebrate the men and women who serve our nation in the armed forces. There are many AΔK sisters that have husbands, sons and daughters who have served or are currently serving. May God keep these individuals out of harm’s way. Happy Veteran’s Day to all.
Through the years the theme behind Thanksgiving has been to thank God and express our gratitude for all of our blessings: home, food, clothing and a loving family. May you all have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Psi Chapter
Psi Chapter drove to Bastrop, Louisiana for their meeting at a wonderful Italian Restaurant. Sue Gibson opened the meeting by talking about women who changed the world. Below is the presentation that she shared.
Susan B Anthony, American crusader for women’s right to vote with the ratification of the 19th Constitutional Amendment in 1920.
Clara Barton, Civil War nurse and founder pf the American Red Cross.
Marie Curie, the first women to be awarded a Nobel Prize (twice) Madame Curie was awarded the Noble prize in Physics and another in one in Chemistry.
Helen Keller, author activist and the first deaf and blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Amelia Earhart, the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic. Earhart completed the record-breaking journey from the US to Ireland in nearly 15 hours.
June Tabei, the first woman to climb Mount Everest, this mountaineer was the first woman to stand on the summit of Mt. Everest in 1975.
Sally Ride, the first American women in space. At the age of 32, Sally Ride journeyed to the starts as a space shuttle crew member.
And our Alpha Delta Kappa founders! Agnes Shipman Robertson, Marie Neal, Marion Southall, and Hattie Poppino, were visionary women who saw a need to recognize and support the professional efforts of outstanding women educators.
Today we celebrate them for changing our world to include all of the remarkable members her today.
The Psi Chapter surprised me with a donation of items needed at the Ronald McDonald house. They filled up my trunk. Patty Snipes and I took the items to the Ronald McDonald house and they were very excited and thankful.
Alpha Mu hosted our Founders' Day Meeting, October 7, 2019 which included members of Alpha, Tau and Alpha Psi.

ATTENTION HISTORIANS by Patty Snipes, State Historian
As Historians I hope you’ve been taking lots of pictures of your chapter. I am working on the archives for our State President, Chanetta Case. She would like to have a page or two representing your chapter. I have given you a sample of a design. I used PowerPoint which would be fine for you to use unless you have another program you are comfortable with.
Be sure to include: list of officers, picture of your group, picture of your officers, pictures of some of your meetings or pictures of doing Altruistic projects.
3 options to send them:
1. If you are not comfortable with PowerPoint or using a computer and would rather create a page on scrapbook paper you can mail it to me. 8 ½ x 11.
Patty Snipes, 120 Taylor Park Loop, LR, AR, 72211
2. You can mail me the pictures with captions or names attached.
3. Email information to me – plsnipes@sbcglobal.net
Please get this to me ASAP or at least by January. Start planning what you want on the page to represent your chapter.
Did you know?
Pam Coyne our Fraternity Education Committee Chair shared this at the September Board meeting.
Fraternal or Fraternity Education? Answer: Fraternity Education
Fraternal means "love" and we "love" our fraternal organization; Fraternity Education is "learning about" our fraternal organization that we "love" so dearly.
