A Message from Dr. Hicks
Hello Cougar Nation,
Today is the start of Public School Volunteer Week and we would like to thank our volunteers and their assistance on our campuses. Volunteers help in classrooms, mentor and/or tutor our students, support our staff, chaperone at field trips, and much much more. They are a valuable resource and we are grateful for their time and energy they dedicate to our students and staff. If you would like to volunteer, click here to fill out an application.
Jarrell ISD has worked diligently to plan end-of-year activities that honor our students and staff, and we hope you will join us in these celebrations. We have included some events in the newsletter below. More information can be found in campus newsletters with information about dates and times for the specific events.
Our Pre-K & Kindergarten Preview at Igo is tomorrow evening from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. It’s a one hour event and a terrific opportunity to meet the staff, tour the campus, and learn important information. It’s not come and go, so please prepare to stay the whole hour. Also, because a storm interrupted the Pre-K & Kindergarten Preview at Jarrell Elementary last week, the school is rescheduling their event to April 26 from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
We continue to make terrific progress on bond-related construction projects. Phase 1 of the parking lot improvements at Jarrell High School started this week. This phase will replace the asphalt with concrete thereby making it safer to walk and drive with an even surface. The construction is scheduled to finish before the graduation ceremony at Cougar Stadium. Phase 2 of the parking lot will begin after graduation and will replace the area in front of the baseball/softball fields with concrete. Double Creek Elementary construction continues, and we are on target to open at the beginning of the 2023 school year. There’s more information and a link to our bond construction page to keep you updated throughout the process.
There are many exciting events ahead of us. It’s a great time to be a Cougar.
Your proud superintendent,
Toni Hicks, Ed.D.

Jarrell ISD Bus Rodeo
Congratulations to our Jarrell ISD bus drivers for doing a great job at the Bus Rodeo. Here are the results: Ricardo Gutierrez and Heather Harris won 1st place in Special Needs Overall and are going to the state competition in June. Maria Rodriguez and Lydia Navarro scored 3rd for Special Needs Overall. Carol Vincent won 3rd place Pre-Trip. Jesus Quezada won 2nd in Written Test. Pre-Trip competition makes sure that all components on a school bus work safely before the driver goes on their route. The written test covers driving skills, student management, CPR, bus components (both inside and out), how they work, and whether the bus is safe to transport students.
