Bus Information from Mrs. Deans
Attached you will find directions on how to get into the BUS Parent Portal. This portal will send you information about your child's bus. You will need to sign into this on Sunday night to check on any bus time or bus number changes. You will need to check this regularly for the first couple of weeks of school. You will also find directions on how to sign up for the CHIPMUNK app. This app will track your child's bus.
If you look up your child's bus information on the Bus Parent Portal and no bus number is assigned, this means we do not currently have a bus driver and you will have to transport your child until otherwise noted.
Please work with us for the first few weeks of school while we get dismissal procedures worked out. It will take a little while to stabilize it all. Email me anytime you have any transportation concerns or questions at sgdeans@ncpschools.net.
Thank you for being flexible and patient,
Samantha Deans,
Assistant Principal

Signing-In Parents to Rooms
NCPS App/Rooms
The response to our new district app has been fantastic! If you have downloaded the app, you have seen a toggle at the bottom right of the app that says School App/Rooms. The Rooms section gives teachers and parents the opportunity for two-way messaging about what is happening in the classroom. To access the Rooms section, you must receive an invite either through email or text message. On Monday, August 21st the district pushed out invites to parent email addresses and phone numbers that were on the contacts page of their student's account in PowerSchool. After you received that email or text message, you can follow the directions linked in this document to create your account and get connected to Rooms. You will see your student's classes once the teachers have published them. The NCPS app is the only app parents need to use Rooms. If you are not sure if your email address or phone number are correct in PowerSchool, contact your student's school.
Attendance Matters
Dear Bailey Elementary Families,
We are excited about the school year and want to start off strong by encouraging students to be at school and on-time every day for the entire 2023-2024 school year. Student attendance is an essential component to a student’s academic success.
With the hope of maintaining our new normal, the expectations at Bailey Elementary is for all students to be at school, unless the reason is considered an excused absence per board policy. For information regarding an excused absence please refer to the student handbook or the NCPS website.
The North Carolina Compulsory Attendance Law states that students should have no more than 10 unexcused days of school. Legal action can be taken against you, in accordance to the attendance law (G.S.115C-378).
Please help support your child, their teachers, and the school, by making attendance a priority and ensuring they are at school.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS. ALL DAY. EVERYDAY.
Sincerely,
Justin Sweet, Social Worker
Allen M. Wilson, Principal

We Are An Opportunity Culture School [2nd-5th Grade]
We care very much about your child’s learning—which includes academic, social, and emotional needs. We believe that all students can learn well when their differing needs are met and when adults believe in them.
Because we are committed to providing excellent learning experiences as consistently as possible for all students, our school will use an “Opportunity Culture” teaching model this year.
In Opportunity Culture schools, teams of teachers work together to help students excel. These models let our best teachers reach more students with excellent instruction and help everyone teach more effectively. We expect more students to reach grade-level and subject standards faster, and more students to advance further.
We are part of a national community of Opportunity Culture schools committed to reaching every student with excellent teaching consistently. You can read more about this on OpportunityCulture.org.
The cornerstone of an Opportunity Culture school is the Multi-Classroom Leadership model: small, collaborative teaching teams led by teachers with leadership skills and a record of high-growth student learning. Schools and districts around the country have joined the national Opportunity Culture initiative, and research shows that MCL teaching teams produced strong learning gains for students.
If you child is served by an MCL team, one teacher will be the main point of contact, to keep you informed and keep the team informed about your child.
In our 2nd-5th grade classrooms where our school has implemented Opportunity Culture models, you can expect:
High expectations that your child can learn and advance, even when facing challenges
Consistent monitoring of your child’s progress
Concrete actions to help your child address individual challenges, or advance further
Personally engaging instruction by teachers who are excited to teach and supported by a team
Approaches that motivate students to take ownership of their own learning
Increased small-group instruction
A team of adults who can focus on your child’s social, emotional, and time-management development
We welcome your feedback as we improve and expand our focus on teaching and learning excellence.
