Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
One of my favorite things about working at CHS is watching our students showcase their skills on the field, court, auditorium, and in the classrooms and hallways. This last week our band concert was fantastic, and the Cantalinas serenaded us in the hallway one foggy morning. I am very much looking forward to the fall play as well. We are so blessed to be surrounded by so much talent.
Last night’s conferences were successful and well attended. We held 565 virtual conferences. If you didn’t get a chance to speak with a teacher, please reach out to them via email or phone. There is a staff directory on the website, or call the office and we can assist in connecting you. You should have access to your student’s progress report on Parentvue. If you need help accessing Parentvue, please contact Lori Wujek at lori.wujek@canby.k12.or.us or 503-263-7219.
A quick reminder that there is no school tomorrow, Friday, 10/21. Looking ahead, picture makeup day is Monday, October 24. Students will be called down from class to have a new photo taken or get a picture taken if they have not done so yet. We also have ACT testing day coming up on November 1. Freshman and sophomore students will take the Pre-ACT, and juniors will take the ACT. Students will be dismissed at 1:15 that day. Seniors will not be expected to attend school but will be able to spend some time exploring colleges or completing community service requirements. Please see more information below in this newsletter.
I would also like to highlight Naviance, our new digital platform for college, career, and life readiness. We will be utilizing this tool throughout the year to help students identify their strengths, interests, and learning styles. As students approach senior year, Naviance will be the tool they use to help them find their best fit path for after high school, make plans, and move into the next phase of career or college. Students can request letters of recommendations for teachers, manage the college application process, and keep track of their resumes and job searches in one helpful place. If you have questions, please contact your student's counselor.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Winter Sports Season starts November 14th. Registration will open October 27th. Students must be fully cleared through the registermyathlete.com site in order to attend any practice or tryouts.
Bus routes are posted on our transportation web page and will be updated a few times each year, but for the latest route information and to track your student’s bus in real time, use the Traversa Ride 360 app – available online and for free in the App Store and Google
Today, Thursday, 10/20, we had a sprinkler burst in the cafeteria. Students did an excellent job as we followed our evacuation procedures until we were cleared to re-enter the building (approximately 15 minutes). Thanks to our district facilities, Bremick Construction, and Canby Fire for the assistance.
Athletics and Activities
Schedules:
We have all of our athletics schedule all in one place on our master athletic schedule. This includes game times, locations, and bus departure times. It is updated real-time by your athletic department. Go to this link to see the current schedule, which is subject to change with little notice.
This week we needed to adjust some schedules due to an unhealthy Air Quality Index (AQI). We follow the OSAA policy regarding AQI located here. We use all available data from web sources such as this one and other surrounding observations. If we believe the AQI is higher than the allowable safety levels per OSAA policy, we will act accordingly for the health of our students.

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
Information for Seniors
Canby High School College & Career Center will be hosting a College Goal Oregon event on Wednesday October 26th, from 6:00pm-8:30pm in the CHS Library.
This is a free event where you can get help completing your FAFSA or ORSAA and learn more about finding funds for college or trade school.
Please look for additional information in the weeks leading up to our event.
PARENTS: Before you attend the College Goal Oregon event, we recommend that students and parents obtain an FSA ID prior to attending the FAFSA/ORSAA completion event on October 26th at CHS. This will allow you enough time to complete the FAFSA at the event. Please use the below link.
